Catholics are required to attend Mass every Sunday and on specific holy days of obligation. In 2026, one of those days also falls on a Sunday, and itʼs happening this weekend. On Nov. 1, the solemnity of All Saints will replace the 31st Sunday of Ordinary Time.
On Saturday, Oct. 31, and on Sunday, Nov. 1, Evening Prayer 1 of the Liturgy of the Hours is for All Saints and the vigil Mass on Saturday will observe the Mass of All Saints.
Solemnities rank above feasts and memorials and are the highest liturgical celebrations in the Catholic Church. They honor significant mysteries of the Christian faith, including events in the lives of Jesus and Mary, as well as key saints.
The solemnity of All Saints celebrates all Christian saints — those formally canonized by the Church and those who are not but have attained heaven. It is typically a holy day of obligation.
The observance of the solemnity begins with evening prayer (first vespers) the evening before on Oct. 31 — known as All Hallows’ Eve or Halloween — and is followed on Nov. 2 by All Souls' Day, a day in which the entire Church prays for all of the dead.
Sometimes a solemnity that falls on a Sunday will be moved to a Monday.
For example, in 2024, the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on Dec. 8 fell on a Sunday in Advent so the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) transferred the solemnity to the Monday.
The Vatican has clarified that Catholics in the United States must still attend Mass on holy days of obligation even when they are transferred to Mondays or Saturdays, correcting a long-standing practice in the U.S. Church.

Grammy Carmen first read me #MLB commish Bart Giamatti's famous essay, "The Green Fields of the Mind," when I was just a kid. Each year after the #WorldSeries wrapped, she'd pull it out. So per usual, on the first night without baseball, these words still run through my head. – at Clifton, NJ

It’s the feast of St. Jude, one of the most popular saints around. We go to Jesus through his intercession for impossible causes. We don’t really know why – scholars speculate it’s because he was the forgotten apostle, because he was mixed up with Judas Iscariot. So, St. Jude gives us a lot of hope. My beloved Milwaukee Brewers have long been considered an impossible cause. We’ll keep praying! @thegnewsroom

Today I walked into a Catholic church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that could hold its own against the great basilicas of Rome.
And the story behind it is almost as magnificent as the church itself.
The Basilica of St. Josaphat was built by Polish Catholic immigrants, many of them working-class families who had come to America with little money but an extraordinary devotion to their faith.
By the 1890s, their parish had grown to more than 12,000 souls. Their first church had burned down. Their second was too small. So they decided to build something astonishing.
A church modeled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
Their pastor, Father Wilhelm Grutza, learned that an enormous post office and customs building in Chicago was being demolished. He purchased it for $20,000, had it dismantled, and transported its materials to Milwaukee on FIVE HUNDRED railroad cars.
Stone by stone, these Catholic immigrants built their own little piece of Rome.
When the church was completed in 1901, its colossal dome was surpassed in size in America only by the dome of the U.S. Capitol.
But they weren't finished. After years of sacrifice and debt, the church's interior was transformed with magnificent Austrian stained glass, soaring columns, elaborate ornamentation, and breathtaking sacred paintings.
In 1929, Pope Pius XI elevated it to the dignity of a minor basilica—the first Polish-American church to receive that honor.
And the result?
One of the most magnificent Catholic churches in the United States. I have visited some of Europe's great churches, and this basilica genuinely rivals them in beauty and grandeur.
But what moved me most wasn't the dome or the artwork. It was the people who built it.
Ordinary Catholic families who understood something our age has largely forgotten: The house of God should lift man's eyes from earth to Heaven. They did built this for His glory.
And more than 125 years later, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is still offered beneath that magnificent dome.
Deo gratias.
St. Josaphat, pray for us. 🇵🇱

Frosted Mini-Wheats aren't vegetarian. The ingredients are whole grain wheat and sugar, then 2% or less of brown rice syrup and gelatin, plus iron and folic acid. Gelatin is made from animal collagen, and the box doesn't say which animal.
WK Kellogg Co, which makes the cereal now, says it uses gelatin to give the frosting its texture and that its gelatin may come from pork or beef. In a January 2023 letter to US customers, Kellogg said the gelatin in Frosted Mini-Wheats was beef.
That matters to anyone who avoids beef or pork, and it's easy to miss because the gelatin is near the end of a list that starts with whole grain wheat.

Took my dad to a medical test this morning and the facility we went to sends you a QR code that you then scan at a kiosk to do your check-in. They literally had one live person if you didn't use the QR Code system and the line was 30 people deep. My 86-year-old dad uses a flip phone so if I wasn't with him he would have had to wait in that line. And I would say the average age of the person in that line was 80 plus. So we're making all the people with walkers and canes stand in line for an hour to check in. I'm all for embracing technology but this is ridiculous.
