🕊️ Heartbroken by the passing of Director Talib Shakir. More than a colleague, Talib was a friend. We had lots of laughter, love, and honest conversations about work and life. I will always remember his warmth, brilliance, and genuine commitment to serving others. Grateful for his friendship and the moments we shared. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire MORCA and EOM team. Rest in peace, my friend. 🕊️

Tonight, I joined colleagues for Mayor Muriel Bowser and the DC Council’s Congressional Black Caucus Washington Leadership Reception. Enjoyed spending time with members of the community, along with Amber Jackson of the Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs and Heather Gibson of the Mayor’s Office on African American Affairs. It was a pleasure sharing the evening with so many familiar and new faces from across the District. A wonderful evening highlighting leadership, partnership, and the spirit of Washington, DC during CBC Week. ❤️

This past weekend at Art All Night in Georgetown, I had the pleasure of meeting Ruth, Art Director at L’Enfant Gallery. Today, I was pleased to continue that conversation by connecting Ruth with Aaron Myers, Executive Director of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. We had a thoughtful conversation about expanding opportunities for artists who have not always had access to traditional spaces in the art world—and how stronger connections can help open more doors. Because every artist deserves the opportunity to be seen and supported. 🎨

Art All Night in Georgetown 🎨✨ Enjoying an evening right here in my neighborhood celebrating the creativity, culture, and community that make DC special. So far, I’ve painted while listening to a great local dj, stopped by Shop Made in DC to support local makers, and now I’m enjoying dinner at 1310 Kitchen. A beautiful night to get out, explore the neighborhood and experience DC. ❤️ #ArtAllNightDC #GeorgetownDC #ShopMadeInDC #WashingtonDC #DCArts

🇯🇲🎬 An evening celebrating Jamaican storytelling on the big screen! It was a pleasure attending the special U.S. screening of Stew Peas, written, directed and produced by award-winning Jamaican filmmaker Sosiessia Nixon-Kelly. There is something powerful about seeing authentic Jamaican and Caribbean stories, talent and culture represented on screen—and watching those stories continue to reach audiences beyond our shores. Congratulations to Sosiessia and the talented cast, including Kerry-Ann “Chiney K” Collins, Tarique Barrett, Shak-Quera South, Shernet Swearine, Nestor Aaron Absera, Kimberlee Dobson, Hilary Nicholson and Marlon Walker, and to the entire team behind the film. Especially Lisa Alexander, who was instrumental in bringing the film to the DC Metropolitan area. Proud to celebrate and support Caribbean creatives who are telling our stories and expanding the presence of Jamaican cinema on the global stage. 🇯🇲🌎🎥 #StewPeas #JamaicanFilm #JamaicanCinema #CaribbeanFilm #CaribbeanCreatives #CaribbeanStories #Jamaica #Film #SupportCaribbeanFilm

Leadership is not only about the work happening inside your own office. It is also about building relationships across government, understanding how the pieces connect, and using those relationships to better serve people. I’m proud to serve Washington, DC as Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office on Caribbean Community Affairs and grateful for colleagues across District government who share a commitment to our residents—including Aly Kaba, Director of the Mayor’s Office on African Affairs, and Charlotte Woodard of the DC Department of Public Works. Looking forward to joining Director Kaba and the Mayor’s Office on African Affairs for the upcoming DC Unity Soccer Cup and seeing members of our Caribbean community come together with communities from across the District for a day of soccer, culture, and community. ⚽ Join us Saturday, August 29, 11 AM–3 PM at RFK Campus. Register: s.dc.gov/unitycup2026 Different portfolios. One city. A shared commitment to service. #WashingtonDC #CaribbeanDC #Leadership #PublicService #DCUnityCup – at Washington, DC

Please join me in wishing MOCCAs first fellow, Mr. Santiago Duran (Washingtonian of Puerto Rican, Dominican, and Mexican heritage) a sincere congratulations for not only completing the Executive Office of the Mayor District Leadership Academy, but also being selected to present his vision of a self sufficient Senior community. A community dedicated to the needs of our most vulnerable Senior citizen population. Mr. Santiago is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work at Howard University. I wish him the very best on his schooling, career, and future endeavors. – at Washington, DC

This morning, I joined fellow Jamaicans on the occasion of Jamaica’s Sixty-Fourth Anniversary of Independence and One Hundred Eighty-Eight Year of Emancipation under the theme ‘United in Celebrating Resilience’. I was able to connect with many Jamaicans as we sang, praised, and worshiped both our Lord and our beautiful island of Jamaica 🇯🇲. Thank you Embassy of Jamaica for an exceptional service.

What an honor to spend Saturday with my friends from throughout the Caribbean Diaspora. Sarge’s All White Caribbean Pool Party 🌴 The Nutmeg Alliance Grenada Day 🇬🇩 &, The Bahamian Association Bahamian Independence Day Picnic 🇧🇸 The beautiful thing about the Diaspora, you don’t have to travel far to be in the Caribbean.

This past Saturday, I had the honor of presenting a Mayoral Salute to Andrene’s Caribbean & Soul Food Restaurant in Ward 4 with Mr. Andrew Shapiro MOCRS business liaison, community leaders, stakeholders, and representatives from the Main Streets initiative. “On behalf of more than 700,000 residents of the District of Columbia I am proud and honored to salute Andrene’s Caribbean & Soul Food Cafe In recognition of 20 years, in business in Washington DC. The salute honors the enduring value of small businesses and the indispensable role they play in cultivating and connecting communities. Andrene’s two decades of dedicated commitment to their loyal customers in the Manor Park and Petworth neighborhood, and the greater Caribbean community have helped to strengthen our local economy and highlight DC as a place where businesses can grow and thrive. We are grateful to Andrene for bringing the distinct atmosphere and flavors of the islands to DC- may her legacy continue to flourish and inspire Washingtonians across all eight wards!” -MMB – at Washington, DC
