Now that I have more verified followers I am going to try to share this a bit more upfront. I hope I don't get any bots. My good friend in Kenya Rose Mwende, who I have known for several years now, is currently out of work and recovering from a bad foot injury. She and her son need help with living expenses. The end of the month is almost here and bills are threatening. Plus, Kenya is getting it's rainy season, making things even more difficult. Please consider donating even a small amount ad sharing to maximize reach. gofund.me/558515f55

Sound familiar? "Fantasy is a natural human activity. It certainly does not destroy or even insult Reason; and it does not either blunt the appetite for, nor obscure the perception of, scientific verity. On the contrary. The keener and clearer is the reason, the better fantasy will it make. If men were ever in a state in which they did not want to know or could not perceive truth (facts or evidence), then Fantasy would languish until they were cured! If they ever get into that state (it would not seem at all impossible), Fantasy will perish, and become Morbid Delusion."--J.R.R. Tolkien, On Fairy-stories

That's all good and fine, Nate. But until you can put a stop to people abusing the flagging system to take down innocent people's accounts, X will never be the proper place for anyone to build their business. And I think you know it, too. #FreeStanky

Yeah… Hard Pass… Accounts get regularly suspended for either being to active or because X refuses to stop or do anything about brigading an mass reporting campaigns. Seriously, I own a small business and would never even consider trying to operate a business account here.

The company itself, through shadow banning and suspensions, makes that impossible.

I am doing that, but still, nothing is happening. I think the monetization process should be made easier.

No. Completely untrustworthy platform that your entire life can be put at risk over a harassment campaign on you and no one at the company does anything about it.

If you would stop throttling creatives at every corner turn with a rulebook that no one gets to read would be a great start to building business. Also, restore @TheKingOfStank. No one's "business" should be closed on X because you let a bunch of non-paying sock accounts brigade the report button.

#FreeStanky If it's not safe to build on here because we can be brigaded off with no recourse. You can't expect X to be the center of anyone's business.

Hey Nate, I am sure you are tired of getting messages about this-- but it would be great to get some input on what happened to @TheKingOfStank's account. He was building his business on X for 2 years (as an author), but was suspended after clear brigading by anti-AI folks. This was after renewing premium for a year. There are lots of people who would love to build their business on X, but the risk of losing everything overnight isn't an acceptable one.

Our accounts are still too susceptible to being nuked due to mass reporting. This is a problem that needs to be addressed

Unfortunately your willingness to hand veto power over our livelihoods to random unverified accounts make that an extremely risky proposition. It just allows us to be canceled without them ever having to learn what our names are.

Our most played LAN game from a time long gone: Age of Empires 2 (Ensemble Studios, 1999). This was always the undisputed first game we played once the LAN was set up. There wasn’t even any debate or voting. Age was the default, afterwards we decided what to play next (usually another round of Age). Island teams, no attacks for the first 20 minutes treaties, trash talk, laughter, and the occasional rage quit. Age of Empires 2 was the complete package from a time when LAN weekends were the pinnacle of gaming. What was your #1 most played LAN game back in the day?

One big pet peave I have with a lot of beginner programming books and tutorials that I have used is that they either don't mention floating point rounding errors or given them such a brief mention, they aren't likely to sink in. This is even more frustrating as there are some very simple guidelines new programmers could be given to avoid problems with floating point numbers. If a number doesn't have to be 100% accurate, like colors, spacial coordinates, and weights, you ca use floats; just make sure you never check for exact equality. Check for greater than, less than, or within a range of values. If a number needs to be 100% accurate, like money, use a large integer representing the smallest fraction of money possible, like a cent. Writing a helper function that displays the amount in dollars is relatively trivial.

Okay, so, I was in the mood for a game with some shooting and some stealth and so I started a new game of Cyberpunk 2077 and...I can't do it. I can't replay that game because it's not about me, it's about Johnny Freakin' Silverhand. Anyone have suggestions for alternate games with good shooting, good stealth, and actual player agency? I don't wanna have to go back to being a Skyrim stealth archer.

In 1998, Brian Kernighan wanted a regular expression engine small enough to fit on one page of a programming book. Rob Pike went to his office and came back an hour or two later with roughly 30 lines of C. It supported ^, $, ., and *, using little more than pointers and recursion. Kernighan later featured it in Beautiful Code.

My new language is D, and while I am still getting used to it, I feel very confident in that statement. Oddly, I would compare moving from C++ to D as similar to moving from Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 to Pathfinder 1st Edition. It keeps everything that I like and fixes a lot of what I didn't. The names of things in the standard library are less cryptic. Ranges, dynamic arrays, and associative arrays are built in. Strings are less confusing. And mutability is more granular and defined. Here is a D dice roller.
