very weird thing happening rn technical people are sad, they think their skills are now useless non-technical people are desperately wishing they were more technical so they could use agents better

there's few people betting on opensource models more than us but it's important to be realistic about where they are and the demand for them there's a big gap still. they are fulfilling an interesting spot in the market but too many people are acting like they're on the verge of killing frontier

Open weights models fall further behind in v5. The leader, Kimi K3.1 Pro (weights not yet released), scores 46, 12 points behind the leader, compared with a 3-point gap in v4.3. Of models with released weights, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017 (max) and GLM-5.3 (max) score highest at 32, and Claude Haiku 5.5 (max) outscores all of them. The gap is widest on HLE-Diamond and Terminal-Bench-Science, where Kimi K3.1 Pro scores 37% and 34%, compared with 68% for Claude Opus 5.5 (max) and 63% for GPT-6 Astra (max).

The coding interview is dead, at least for my team at Anthropic. I've seen enough to know that it no longer provides signal. I removed it from loops this month. I have a spicy, optimistic take - I think there's an opportunity for junior engineers: felixrieseberg.com/hunger-be…

the maxed out Mac Studio in India will cost you ~36 lacs - the price you usually pay to buy two reasonably good cars from here. just wow.

we just bought a new MBP in family a few days before the touchscreen version was slated for launch. precisely for this reason.

i can also see around me that those bitter about AI and not adapting to the new world have had a challenging last few months.
I'm starting to sense a divide in the tech industry: - People thriving on autonomy who are reinventing how they work and what tools they use with AI: LOTS of work, but they're enjoying it and getting very efficient - People used to being mentored / trained / or simply told what to do and how. Frustrated with the lack of guidance from management on what to do with AI; also frustrated by seeing some of their peers thriving; increasingly bitter about AI and the state of the industry, as a whole Neither group seems to be aware that there's another group, or have empathy for the other group

many won’t agree with this but they know deep down it’s true.
Revolut CEO Nik Storonsky: “The US is not that competitive. Europe is even less competitive.” “China is competitive.” “China is 9/9/6. Even if you are good in Europe, or in the US, how can you out-compete the people who work 9:00 to 9:00, six days a week?” “I started in a co-working space with 140 companies. Within 5 years, only 3 companies survived. They all worked on the weekends.” “Within 10 years, only 2 companies survived out of 140.” “Working weekends is a must if you want to survive. Purely statistically.”

SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios. The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios. Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said. Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior. Read my latest for Axios here: axios.com/2026/10/22/ai-agen…

AI is progressing rapidly in two directions: 1. bigger and bigger models running on biggest compute clusters. 2. small models with full stack of tools mimicking frontier AI development and inference.
Introducing MLX-LM-LoRA v5.9.0 This brings LLM training to your AI agent through MCP. Describe what you want in plain language. Your agent can validate the training config, launch a fine-tune on Apple Silicon, monitor progress, inspect logs, and stop the run. The goal: make improving an LLM something you can ask for in a conversation.........or automate. This is a first step toward automating the improvement loop aka RSI for everyone: evaluate → train → evaluate → iterate. How to use it: python3 -m pip install -U "mlx-lm-lora[mcp]" Codex: codex mcp add mlx-lm-lora -- /full/path/to/mlx-lm-lora-mcp Claude-Code: claude mcp add --transport stdio --scope user mlx-lm-lora -- /full/path/to/mlx-lm-lora-mcp Install the skill: npx skills add Goekdeniz-Guelmez/mlx-lm-lora --skill mlx-lm-lora -a codex -a claude-code -g github.com/Goekdeniz-Guelmez…
