🚨ANECDOTE ALERT! It's 1992, and I am in a Biology class. Girls across the classroom uses the word 'gender'. Biology teacher flips his lid: "It's sex. It's sex in my laboratory. If you want to talk about gender, go and see the Latin Master."

Never tire of reading Loftus on water. It's a body of knowledge that isn't going to win many pub quiz rounds. But it is a public service worth having.
I'd blame it more on lack of rain personally. If we had more reservoirs then they would also be dry.

Beautiful thing about Britain: very little cultural difference between the oldest money/posh and the working class. Accent and hobby aside, it's all scotch eggs and tinnies in a damp field.

As much as it pain me to admit it, if it has the capability of offending someone because of their beliefs, it's 'political'. Applies equally to poppies and pride badges. Although, of course, I always wear my poppy with pride.
Just so we are clear, there is absolutely no equivalence between a f*cking pride badge and poppy.

Andy Burnham doesn't get to choose the red lines.
🚨 This is huge. Andy Burnham is now openly saying that EU free movement would not be a red line. Free movement was one of the central reasons Britain ruled out the Single Market after Brexit. If that red line goes, the door to much deeper economic reintegration opens with it. Burnham hasn’t committed to restoring free movement yet. But he is now publicly questioning one of the fundamental assumptions on which hard Brexit was built. And his argument is devastatingly simple: Pre-Brexit European migration was often circular - people came, worked, and went home. Post-Brexit Britain ended free movement and then experienced much higher net migration. Brexit did not solve immigration. It changed its nature, while damaging trade at the same time. Thank god we’ve moved beyond “make Brexit work” to reconnecting Britain.

Exactly this.
It's been months that I keep saying Hitler was far left. Every time, thousands of clowns show up in my replies to give me history lessons. So I made a video to answer all these low IQ takes at once. Topic closed. Next.

It's 2026. In a few months the man will have nine sons, and each will have three sisters - two of who will have cocks.
Only people who pay close attention will get this right Can you?😭

As a big fan of Slow Horses, I think Jack Lowden would make a terrible 007.

This is an insane take. Skyfall doesn't make the top 15 Bond films.
Skyfall is the highest point any James Bond film has ever reached. This isn’t just the best James Bond film ever made - it’s 1) clearly the best Bond of all time and 2) one of the best films of the 21st Century. Every last actor in this film, not to mention director Sam Mendes & Sir Roger Deakins, are all at the top of their game. They need to pick the next James Bond already, damn it. I’m getting impatient.

Is it just me, or is Brosnan's Bond a bit... y'know... Partridge?

Watching Goldeneye and wondering why they didn't pick Sean Bean as Bond over Brosnan. Or even Robbie Coltrane.

Owen Jones has, for the last three years, revealed himself to be a man of enormous courage, integrity and truthfulness. No one should think for a minute that his relentless defence of Palestinian rights and historical truth is easy or comes without heavy personal costs. Throughout the genocide in Gaza, Jones remained a tireless bur rigorous and supremely decent voice. I suspect part of what initially moved him was the strong displeasure in being treated like an idiot by the official propaganda – a noble motive in itself – but there is no question he has been genuinely touched by the images of suffering arriving daily from Gaza. And yet, how does his intellectual fixation on a battle between left and right help us understand the horrors of Gaza, or move us to stop them? My impression is that the opposite has happened. People look at what is happening in Gaza and ask themselves what a person on the right or on the left should think. In many cases this is ideology. In most, simply careerism and group association. Jones shows how limited the perspective really is. How about, like the author himself, asking how a human being should feel? How about returning to the world of facts and feelings rather than our endless Marvel franchise? newstatesman.com/culture/boo…

What Andrew is worried about (but is not prepared to admit) is that when our next generation of 'young people' gaze across the channel they'll see a basket case; and they'll be confused why anyone every wanted to be in it.
One of Brexit's cruellest consequences is that young British people may never realise how much freedom they once stood to inherit. The right to live, work and build a future across Europe. Not just for a few years. For a lifetime.

The Canary will be closed for the foreseeable future. As of today (Monday 19 October), the Canary will be closed indefinitely. After multiple attacks this year, from Lloyds debanking us to former employees spreading malicious lies on social media, the situation has become unsustainable, both financially and operationally. After 11 years, we take this action with deep sadness and regret. The extent of the lies, defamation, and harassment by ex-staff - coupled with the constant attacks by the state and those who’d see us destroyed - has become too much. However, it is not over. This week, we will publish what really happened at the Canary and push back against the vicious campaign against our team and us. We may be down, but we’re not out yet.

If the Russian influence us to Leave (what with all the disruption it cause), you can be sure as getting us to re-join (rather than stay out) would be their objective now.
Russian trollobots and genuine Brexit zealots seem to be upping the volume (in both senses) of their output now that the UK joining the EU has become a genuine future possibility....

Remoaner self-loathing: "Only French people can cook."
London's restaurants help make this city extraordinary. But Brexit ended automatic access to European workers, adding recruitment barriers to a sector already facing staffing pressures. Our hospitality industry thrives on international talent. Why make attracting it harder?
