When many AEF members report to us that airport noise complaints systems are ineffective, it is disappointing to hear Keir Mather, minister for aviation, say that an independent ombudsman would duplicate complaint and appeal arrangements. 1/3

But the opening of Terminal 5 wasn’t exactly smooth and you also promised not to ask for a third runway if T5 was built.

And T2 costs were some of the highest in the world for such a structure which have then been added to passenger bills, the UK needs to chose efficient options not ones that guarantee returns to shareholders whatever the cost and unproven benefits
Wonder if there is any chance that this GOV or any other will take climate change seriously, not keep allowing airports to expand, and take a teenzy weeny bit of notice of the @theCCCuk

Passenger charges are currently £28 . They'll rise up to £65 after expansion.
At what is already the world’s most expensive airport.
Every airline says it’s unaffordable. Listen to them.

Perhaps the first thing to do is to take the advice of the @theCCCuk
and not expand Heathrow...... bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwd0…

Heathrow calls it “private investment.”
The reality is that passengers pay through a regulated formula that guarantees shareholders their return.
Investors get a safe bet. You get the bill.

Heathrow’s last nine big projects ran 61% over budget on average.
61% on top of £49bn cost of 3rd runway will take the total to £79bn!
What could go wrong?

There is a precedent for when a London airport cannot cope with the amount of traffic. It is not to bulldoze people out of their homes, demolish schools & heritage buildings. It is to shut the airport viz. Croydon airport. Plenty of jobs to be had building a new town on Heathrow

The 3rd runway price tag leaves out the surface access improvements needed to accommodate millions of extra passengers a year.
Last estimate was around £15bn.
Who covers that cost?

The figure seems mysteriously to have reduced from 108,000. The GOV's own analysis shows that as the Heathrow area has relatively full employment, jobs created will be taken from other jobs or take workers from other areas. There will be no/little net increase in employment
🚨 New figures released today show Heathrow expansion is expected to unlock at least 50,000 local jobs.
That includes 33,000 jobs across Heathrow’s nine local boroughs, alongside at least 17,500 jobs during the peak of construction.
We’re also preparing the next generation now for the opportunities that expansion will bring by introducing a new programme of activity, which includes:
🎓 An ambition to deliver 5,000 youth apprenticeships, traineeships and other pathways
💼 A refreshed in-person work experience programme for local students
📅 A new annual careers event for local job seekers
🏗️ A key role in the new West London Construction Training Excellence Centre
✨ More opportunities for small businesses through Heathrow’s supply chain
It’s all part of our new Economic Development Framework, a roadmap for how Heathrow expansion will deliver growth locally and nationwide ➡️ lnkd.in/etqNWd8E
As Becky Coffin, Director of Communities and Residential Property, Heathrow, says: “We see first-hand how much of a difference a career makes to someone's life, and we are serious about our responsibility to connect local people to the opportunities at Heathrow. At least 50,000 local jobs being unlocked is just one of the reasons why local polling shows clear support for expansion.”

In June, Heathrow Airport stated their intention to launch a mental health support service for local residents badly affected by their third runway proposals.
Yet despite their assurances, it has failed to materialise. Another broken promise by Heathrow.
Here’s our Chair discussing why the service is sadly necessary on @TimesRadio

Why are fuels based on crops as a feedstock not a good alternative to kerosene? 🛬
They harm food security, risk deforestation and, according to @WorldResources, could actually INCREASE aviation emissions rather than cut them. 1/2

60,000 jobs says Govt. Yet DfT’s own analysis says these won't be new jobs.
Just jobs moved from elsewhere in the UK.
Moving jobs the map isn’t growth Mr Healey!

A reminder that expansion at Heathrow threatens the health benefits already being enjoyed by communities in West London, following the very real recent successes in reducing air pollution.

£49bn for a third runway - at least!
The government’s own revised analysis: up to MINUS £52.5bn in value.
That’s not an investment. That’s black hole in the UK's finances. #NoThirdRunway

The sad truth on carbon emissions on Heathrow expansion in the CCC advice to the Government. The GOV should accept it and stop this stupid project. SAFs are a small proportion and Jet Zero should mean what it says - Zero = "0"
