Long COVID is not one disease.
I'm going through the peer-reviewed papers and clinical trials to dissect what the evidence shows. So far, I've sorted it into 8 boxes, 8 systems that can go wrong after infection.
A first attempt, not the whole story. More coming.

What not to say when you are a scientist working on “aging” and aging related diseases.
The comment is … three points …
1. Distasteful
And sometimes other scientists could interpret this as
2. Do not really understand what cancer is and how it relates to aging
3. Do not really understand aging and what causes aging in humans
But because who he is … he gets away with it 🤷🏻♀️

This is the first article of a series focusing on iron deficiency. I plan to cover different causes, from aging to cancer, and which tests to order to rule out other diseases.

Just premiered:
A Mayo Clinic study of nearly 800 people found the gut signal in Long COVID was weak overall, but strong in two groups.
People whose symptoms were mostly gut related, and people whose main symptom was fatigue.
What that means 👇

She was told it was Parkinson’s.
She fell twice. The room went grey when she stood. Her meds “maybe” helped.
3 red flags. Nobody caught them.

Two people. Same Parkinson’s diagnosis.
One is still walking 10 years later. The other struggles within 3.
Why? In brain studies after death, more than 9 in 10 people with Parkinson’s had something else there too.
Almost nobody has pure Parkinson’s.

Did you know?
1. 1 in 4 Parkinson’s disease cases are misdiagnosed. In some studies, this can be up to 50%
2. Parkinsonism is not Parkinson’s disease. Levodopa does not treat this.
3. Parkinson’s is not hereditary. Only about 10-15% are passed down.
4. New clinical trials are coming up.
5. Demand biomarker diagnosis: ask your doctor about targeted diagnostic testing or a biomarker panel to help identify the exact cause of your symptoms. 👇
Your banana loses up to 85% of its resistant starch on the way from green to spotty. 🍌
And most of that loss happens before you’d even call it ripe.
Here’s what’s going on inside the peel.
GREEN:
→ Packed with resistant starch
→ Your small intestine can’t digest it, so it feeds your gut bacteria
→ Firm, barely sweet
GREEN TURNING YELLOW:
→ This is where the biggest drop happens
→ Enzymes are chopping starch into sugar
SPOTTY:
→ Mostly sugar
→ Soft, sweet, easy to digest
The numbers: in lab analyses, resistant starch fell from ~32% to ~5% of the banana’s dry weight. Another study found ~35% down to ~9%.
Same fruit. Very different starch.
Now the human studies:
🟢 Small 6-week trial: healthy adults ate unripe banana flour just 3x a week. They felt less hungry and fuller, and they ate ~14% less at their next two meals. Insulin sensitivity markers improved too.
🟢 Obese adults with type 2 diabetes took green banana starch daily for 4 weeks. They lost more weight than on a control drink.
🟢 Lean and obese adults took green banana starch for 4 days. Continuous glucose monitors showed lower blood sugar than with regular corn starch.
🟡 But: in 7 men with type 2 diabetes, glucose response barely differed between mostly-yellow and brown-flecked bananas eaten at the same carb load.
So the starch changes a lot. Your blood sugar may care less than TikTok claims.
One caveat: most of the trials used green banana flour or starch, not whole bananas.
Take-home:
Want more resistant starch?
Buy them green and eat them before they fully yellow.
Want sweet and gentle on the stomach?
Let them spot.
Neither is “bad.” It’s a dial, and you set it in the produce aisle.
Green, yellow, or spotty? Defend your banana. 👇
