Many of the issues around covid and care/nursing homes may be coming from poorly managed homes. My mother lived in a @Bupa nursing home, who were excellent through the whole pandemic. It was tough not being able to visit, but I have no issues.
UK public Covid inquiry rejects ministers' claims of 'protective ring' around care homes at start of pandemic bbc.in/4z4fU0E
And what will this do for the economy and jobs? Who will enforce it?
This is tinkering with populist measures to distract from having very little on the big issues.
Replying to @UKLabour
The campaign will remind people of the law against playing loud music, those who refuse to stop could be removed from the train or fined up to £1,000.
What a fab jolly on the taxpayers account. There is work to do in Poplar & Limehouse.
Was Tulip Siddiq on the agenda?
In Dhaka last week, the APPG on Bangladesh delegation held frank and full conversations with Government officials & Ministers – on matters ranging from women’s rights to parliamentary democracy.
We thank the President of Bangladesh, Parliamentary authorities and government officials for their reception.
Did they hire The Thick Of It script writers for this? Shame they @Ed_Miliband and @JohnHealey_MP didn’t have anything better to do at te IMF. Maybe no world leaders had time for them.
Overheard a mother & son convo - intelligent, well educated. She a teacher, him a graduate. Discussing government proposals on pensions, social care & tax. No clue how it currently works or costs if self-funding care. Govt has lot of work to do for people to vote for change
The last paragraph - “That's exactly the kind of thing I want this government to keep on fixing”
Sums up his government. Tinkering with small, populist measures because they can’t/won’t do anything to fix national finances and economy.
You know that feeling when you book a flight for 50 quid and somehow it ends up costing 100?
Getting seats together, correcting a typo, another charge here and there, it all adds up.
When the cost of living is already squeezing people, those endless extras can feel relentless.
So we're changing the rules for you.
Parents won't need to pay a penny extra just to sit next to their own children.
You'll be able to fix any name errors on your booking free of charge.
And because the last thing you want once you're on the plane is more stress, we're working with the industry to make sure that disruptive passengers who have been banned from one airline can be banned from flying with other airlines too.
I know holidays are expensive and these are small things, but hopefully they'll make your trip just that little bit cheaper and easier.
That's exactly the kind of thing I want this government to keep on fixing.
If Andy Burnham think this is the answer to the UK’s problems and will win him the next election - he needs to read the replies to his post.

This will just mean the selection fee is built into the up front prices. More expensive prices for everybody, including solo fliers who don’t care where they sit on a short flight. Airlines aren’t going to give up the revenue. It does nothing for the cost of living.

‘Free personal care’ - @Miatsf is disingenuous. Care home operators will allocate more costs to the residential pot, self-funders will continue to subsidise state/local authority provision.
The nursing care element of residential care (FNC) is currently set at £246 per week. Residential care for a self funded can be £2500 per week. @Miatsf surely knows this, she’s not transparent @bbcquestiontime @JuliaLopezMP gets it.
What hubris. Speaking about unity and one Labour. She was instrumental in the move against Keir Starmer.
Is the Prime Minister suggesting we let Man City off and accept corruption, to keep Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mansour happy. Where does that end? #Manchesterism

This thread. Plus @bbcquestiontime last week. When will politicians learn not to take on @afneil ?
This is so bonkers I can hardly believe you made it.
A large part of the 2.5m were unproductive — students, dependents etc. So they had little impact on GDP.
But their numbers are included in GDP/capita calculations, so quite the impact on GDP/capita.
I’m amazed you don’t understand this.
No wonder the three Theresa May years were three of the most miserable, shambolic, rudderless in our country’s modern history.
Who was the hammy skit intended for? America or UK? It’s ridiculous for a Foreign Sec. It’s as bad as the EdStone of 2015
It looks and feels spontaneous, but is it?
A video of Ed Miliband having an apparently impromptu chat with Feroz Khan, an American social media influencer, on the streets of New York
Khan is an American social media influencer who has made a name for himself conducting seemingly impromptu interviews with people he stops in the street with a simple question: “What do you do for a living?”
The Miliband clips has already had more than 1million views.
But is it real?
In fact it has been carefully staged
There are several clues. The video shows Khan stopping Miliband in the street as he makes his way between engagements. “Excuse me, you have an amazing outfit,” he tells him. “What do you do for a living?”
Rather than walk on Miliband, surprisingly, stops and turns to face the camera. His aides, meanwhile, keep on marching on without even looking back to check who he is talking to. They don’t wait for him, disappearing out of shot
Even for a politician, Miliband appears to have rather well-rehearsed answers for Khan’s questions. “Hang on you’re that Feroz guy aren’t you,” he says. “You interviewed JLo once. What are you doing here?”
Khan replies with a compliment: “I spread positivity on social media and I happened to come across you well dressed. What do you do for a living?”
In a surreal exchange Miliband says he is the foreign secretary of Great Britain. “Please forgive me, I don’t know what that is,” Khan replies
“I’m like the Marco Rubio of Great Britain,” Miliband says. What follows is an extraordinarily soft interview on any level. Khan, who sees his job as “spreading positivity”, says: “Nice to meet you. What makes your work so special?”
The final clue is in the post itself. Khan posted it on his Instagram in direct “collaboration” with the Foreign Office and Britain’s UN mission, meaning it went up on their Instagram accounts at exactly the same time
