🚨 NEW EPISODE OUT NOW! 🚨
IMAGINE SOMEONE TAKING YOUR CHILD AWAY AND NEVER SEEING THEM AGAIN!
For many Rwandan mothers under Belgian colonial rule, this was a heartbreaking reality.
Mixed-race children were forcibly separated from their mothers and sent to Belgium. Some mothers spent decades searching for their children. Others never saw them again.
But why did this happen? What role did the Catholic Church play? And who should be held accountable?
In this powerful episode of The Long Form Podcast, Dr. Alice Karekezi (@auukarekezi), a researcher who has spent years investigating this dark chapter of Rwanda’s colonial history, joins us to uncover the stories of mothers whose voices have long been forgotten.
We explore racism, sexual violence, stolen children, broken families, and Belgium’s responsibility for its colonial past.

once again i believe a more nefarious reason sex ed isn’t prevalent in this country is that it would provide the kids with the ability to preempt, recognize and speak about abuse.

The literacy crisis isn’t that people can’t read the words. It’s that they can’t understand the context, infer meaning, recognise nuance, identify contradictions, or draw logical conclusions from what they’ve read

I don't mind people disagreeing with me but have you read first? Do you read? If not, we are having two different conversations. I personally never speak on things I don't know. I am reader and at the very core a critical thinker so I always know things and when I speak on something is because I know.

Such a shame that our trusted institutions, @RwandaGender and @Rwandapolice, chose silence over accountability. Owning it was the hard but brave thing to do. How do you teach the next generation the virtue of accountability when our leaders pick and choose when to show it?
