The big, burly tradie pulls his ute off busy Canberra - Queanbeyan road, hazards flashing. Steps into middle of the thoroughfare, halting traffic. Impatient drivers: "mate, what!"
Tradie gently collects ittle turtle who'd been contemplating playing chicken.

Dumb decision after dumb decision.
Labor has had to backflip - again - on the ridiculous legislation we debated just last week to try to make small businesses provide and pay for reusable coffee cups!

Last week, a new Upper House inquiry was established to examine the Firearms Legislation Amendment (Reforms Repeal) Bill 2026 – and the committee wants to hear from you!
Introduced by the Hon Mark Banasiak, the bill seeks to repeal a number of firearms amendments that were introduced by the NSW Government in the wake of the Bondi attack in December 2025. With hearings kicking off in November, the committee will consider whether the proposed repeal of amendments in the Terrorism and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2025 is justified.
A referendum on conscription for Australia in WWI was held OTD 110 years ago.
Narrowly defeated (and a 2nd in Dec 1917), the highly divisive debate led to a major split in the ALP.
Legislative Council waste-to-energy inquiry I chaired highlights many inconsistencies of NSW Government’s plan for regional areas to deal with metro waste.
The answer isn’t shifting the burden from one community to another, one generation to another.

Some politicians trying to dismiss debate that threatening language/ behaviours towards politicians isn’t on the rise - with my own experience, I beg to differ.
While John Newman may have been killed 32yrs ago, doesn’t diminish what’s going on.

The dog’s breakfast that is Labor’s firearms “legislation” was rammed through NSW Parliament as “urgent” on Christmas Eve 2025 at 3am.
The continuing lack of clarity, how it’s going to work and who’s paying for it, shows the mess it still is.

If the Electoral Commissioner publicly discusses an “intolerable risk” for election failure - bearing in mind we have a NSW election in March - do you reckon the government should do something about it?

Without a successful forestry sector, Australia cannot meet its goals: on housing targets, jobs, regional investment, trade, environmental management and more.
This is about a balanced vision for a sustainable industry AND good environmental stewardship.

There are big questions about how the ACT's natural gas shutdown will impact residents directly across the border in NSW - and it seems the NSW Labor government hasn’t given much thought to it before I asked the question in the @NSWParlLA.
