The Full Hunter’s Moon rises ahead of Halloween - good news for werewolves! 🎃🐺🌕
October’s full Moon rises tonight, and reaches its peak at 4:12am GMT on Monday 26 October.
Traditionally linked to the time of year when people hunt and stock up for the harsh winter months ahead.

Not all monsters exist only around Halloween. Some stalk humans when they least expect it. 🐍
In 2024 three separate women in Indonesia were k*lled by large pythons. Two were swallowed whole and one partially.
Yes.
Being atta*ked and consumed by an animal is a primal human fear.
From the time we were swinging from branches to the time we stood up and looked around in the tall grass, humankind has contended with the fact that we are on the menu.
Death by nonvenomous snake is uncommon and horrifying. No native US snake can swallow an adult human, but invasive Burmese pythons have established themselves in Florida thanks in part to escaped or released pets.
Thank you Florida Man.
Indonesia enters the chat.
The stories:
-7 June 2024 — Farida, 45. A mother of four disappeared. Villagers killed a 16-foot python with a swollen abdomen and found her body inside, still clothed.
-3 July 2024 — Siriati, 36. A mother of five disappeared. Her husband found her belongings near a large python. Villagers killed it and discovered her body inside.
-15 August 2024 — Maga, 74. Her daughter found her body after she disappeared. Villagers killed a 13–15-foot python nearby. According to local officials, it had partially swallowed her before regurgitating her.
I recently wrote about humans versus lions, bears, sharks and now snakes.
Snakes creep me out. It’s that old primal instinct that can return even when we live in places where sharks or giant snakes are nowhere to be found. I’ll stay out of the deep forests and jungles for now on.
Internet photo of a reticulated python, around the size of the three discussed above. 🐍

Halloween derives from the Irish festival of Samhain, when ancient burial mounds were said to open, and ghosts and fairies walked the land. One of the most fearsome of the fairies was the fire-breathing giant Aillen, who was killed by the hero Fionn mac Cumhaill.

Fear of a 10.5-ton exhibit crushing me was never a thing when I went to the Natural History Museum in Manhattan and stood under the 94-foot-long blue whale, suspended from the ceiling.
What is a museum exhibit you have always loved or were blown away by?
Quick details:
First installed in 1969, the whale was modeled on a female blue whale photographed off South America in 1925 (FYI, it wasn’t alive at the time ☹️).
The original model was constructed using fiberglass and polyurethane foam and underwent a major renovation in 2003, when its shape and coloring were updated to be more realistic.
What did they also add in 2003? A belly button, which whales apparently have. That is my style of attention to detail.
It is cleaned annually and the process takes three days and a bunch of ladders and heavy-duty vacuums.
Photo is from the Web.
Lay it on me! What’s your entry?

The crest of the Full Moon will fall at 4:12 UTC on Monday. That's 11:12 p.m. CDT on Sunday night in the Americas.
Notice the steadily shining golden "star" near the Moon. That'll be Saturn! 🪐

😂 Gobshite
Noun: Gobshite
Plural: Gobshites
A familiar Irish insult, usually delivered with a dry edge rather than real malice 😂
A gobshite is someone talking complete nonsense with full confidence, showing poor judgement at the worst possible moment 😂🇮🇪

In Hexham, Northumberland, in 1971, 2 carved heads were unearthed. People who kept the heads in their houses experienced poltergeist-like phenomena & glimpsed a figure described as half-man, half-beast. The heads were thought to be of Celtic origin #SpookySunday #folklore #gothic
