Chief Executive of @GoodEnergy and Chair @Zap_Map. Helping customers cut carbon.

In the last few days I've spoken to Sky News, LBC, TalkTV, ITV News and Channel 5 News with BBC interviews to do today. The scale of the gas crisis has still yet to be grasped by government. Here I talk about the solutions, and why gas drives renewable prices.

Hearing the Energy Minister echo what we have been saying for years — that home-grown renewable power is the only way to detach UK energy prices from volatile global fossil fuel markets — is encouraging. But there remain areas we can go further, faster. theguardian.com/environment/…

Currently well over £1 billion a year is spent on certificates to label customers’ electricity supply ‘renewable’, without any evidence that that cash is stimulating renewable growth rather than filling the pockets of middlemen.

Establishing a better link between renewable generation and consumer and corporate demand for renewable supply would make the government’s goal easier to achieve.

By harnessing our resources to reduce our dependency on imported fossil fuels, the new Government’s early initiatives are the right ones to bring down bills and support our environment.

Large or innovative projects like those to be supported by Great British Energy are an important part of the story, but so is small scale solar power, which can also make millions of us the owners of our power generation.

The government has announced plans for a ‘rooftop revolution’ — solar power will be as important a source of energy security as offshore wind, and we are eager to know more.

We have always been big supporters of what @RippleEnergy do, great to be working with @SpeakSarahSpeak and team on making cooperative ownership of renewables accessible for our customers.
We're partnering with @RippleEnergy to make cooperative renewable energy ownership simple for our customers. 🙌⚡️ Buy a part of a wind or solar farm through Ripple and earn credit to your Good Energy account. Find out more here: bit.ly/4bJmP2T #RenewableEnergy

Lots in the #KingsSpeech on how to progress on large scale renewable infrastructure. In energy, small can be big too — the UK’s rooftop solar has a greater total capacity than our largest power station. And @GoodEnergy's data shows the power it exports has been underestimated.

Mandating solar on new builds through the already planned Future Homes Standard would be simple. It's a no brainer - of course any home of the future should feature solar panels.
Pre-election we called for solar on the 1.5m new homes @UKLabour committed to build. 🏡☀️ It could create 6GW of clean power, generating electricity not only for the 1.5m homes but an additional >1m Today @ObserverUK is reporting a rooftop revolution. theguardian.com/environment/…

Fantastic @RachelReevesMP is lifting the ban on onshore wind - it could unlock 23GW of renewable power that's currently in the pipeline. If we mandated solar on the 1.5m homes the government has committed to, that could create a further 6GW of capacity. news.sky.com/story/new-chanc…

The Conservative manifesto’s energy plan is not surprising — they have been committed to new oil and gas while leaving the blockers on cheaper renewables for some time. But that doesn’t make it any less disappointing.

They say they want to cut costs but fail to clearly explain how a Conservative gov would achieve the one thing that would truly do this for the long term. Unlocking abundant home grown, cheap renewables to power our country, unleashing us from global fossil fuel markets.

In scaremongering about ‘blackouts’ from renewables the Energy Security Secretary appears to be getting her energy policy advice from conspiratorial blog posts published circa 2010. gov.uk/government/news/energ…

It makes no sense to be pronouncing new gas generation when we are still recovering from the shock of the UK’s unique exposure to global gas prices. Let alone when the UK’s cheapest source of power, onshore wind, is effectually blocked.

A new approach to locational pricing is the real energy security measure announced today — more local, home grown clean renewable power brings down bills, carbon and our reliance on volatile gas markets.
