One thing the ECI’s SC affidavit makes it clear: the entire petition relies heavily on a single @IndianExpress report.
Wish SC procedures in high-stakes PILs routinely involved calling the reporter to testify on the factual basis of the story - without touching source confidentiality.
Would clear up so much, especially amidst reports of internal debate over the article itself.

- हा गुजरातचा प्रकल्प नाही, तो महाराष्ट्राचा आहे. या प्रकल्पामुळे गुंतवणूक महाराष्ट्रात, रोजगार महाराष्ट्रात आणि निर्माण होणारी वीज सुद्धा महाराष्ट्रातच!
- यातून 12,000 मेगावॉट वीज महाराष्ट्राला मिळेल. 30,000 कोटींची गुंतवणूक यातून येणार आहे.
- हा कोळशावर आधारित प्रकल्प नाही तर सौर ऊर्जा आधारित, त्यामुळे पर्यावरणाला नुकसान करणारा नाही तर पर्यावरणाला पूरक
- पंप स्टोरेज प्रकल्प असल्याने याचे स्थान निश्चित असते. तो अन्यत्र करता येत नाही.
- या प्रकल्पाला 233 हेक्टर जमीन लागणार असल्याने पर्यायी वृक्षारोपणसाठी कंपनीने वन विभागाला आधीच 253 हेक्टर जमीन सुपूर्द केली आहे. त्यानंतरच वन विभागाने परवानगी दिली.
- शिवाय परवानगीसाठी 18 महिन्यांची संपूर्ण वैधानिक प्रक्रिया पूर्ण केली आहे. सर्व संबंधित प्राधिकरणाच्या परवानगी संपूर्ण पर्यावरणीय अभ्यासानंतर प्राप्त झाल्या आहेत.
- हा प्रकल्प सैदोनगर रायगड जिल्ह्याच्या कर्जत तालुक्यात भीमाशंकर वन्यजीव अभयारण्यापासून सुमारे 16 किमी दूर आहे. सर्व प्रकल्प घटक अभयारण्याच्या सीमेबाहेर आणि इको-सेन्सिटिव्ह झोन (ESZ) बाहेर आहेत. त्यामुळे अभयारण्यात कोणतीही झाडे तोडणे किंवा काम चालू नाही.
- हा प्रकल्प भीमाशंकर ज्योतिर्लिंग मंदिरापासून सुमारे 20 किमी दूर आहे. मंदिराजवळ कोणतेही प्रकल्प काम प्रस्तावित नाही.
- या प्रकल्पामुळे पीक तासांमध्ये स्वच्छ वीज मिळेल. इतकी वीज तयार करण्यासाठी वर्षाला सुमारे 4.6 दशलक्ष टन कोळशाचे ज्वलन टाळले जाणार आहे.
- वर्षाला 40 लाख वाहनांमुळे जितके कार्बन उत्सर्जन होते, तितके या प्रकल्पाने टळणार आहे.
- याच प्रकल्प क्षेत्रात टॉरेंट कंपनी 60,000 झाडे लावणार असून वन विभाग 30,000 झाडे लावणार आहेत.
- पाणी आणि जमीन वाचवली: वर्षाला सुमारे 19.7 अब्ज लिटर कूलिंग वॉटर, जे 4 लाख लोकांसाठी पुरेसे आहे ते यात वाचवण्यात आले. इतक्या क्षमतेच्या प्रकल्पात वर्षाला सुमारे 1.6 दशलक्ष टन फ्लाय अॅश आणि 40-50 हेक्टर नवीन ओपन-कास्ट मायनिंग होते. ते या पंप स्टोरेज प्रकल्पामुळे टाळले गेले आहे.

Election Commission of India files counter affidavit in Supreme Court on plea against CEC's functioning; says petition built entirely on a single news report
What ECI says:
Affidavit approved unanimously by all three members: the CEC and both Election Commissioners
All three SIR orders (June 2025, October 2025, May 2026) were unanimous decisions of the Commission
Notes, queries or suggestions by the CEC or ECs while a file moves are not decisions of the Commission
Files go to one EC, then the other EC, then the CEC. In urgent cases, approval is taken electronically and recorded on file later
Any officer issuing orders beyond delegated powers will face action
July 28 work allocation order was issued by an Additional Secretary on deputation. Both ECs wrote to the Cabinet Secretary the next day. The order was never implemented after the ECs' joint direction of July 30
Form 6 has not been amended. Only the Centre can amend it. The SIR declaration is a separate document
