Western media reports currently indicate an increasing deployment of US forces to the Gulf. It is also reported that Iran anticipates there will soon be an escalation of US/Israel military attacks.
In South Korean, President Lee is under continued pressure from Trump to join in the conflict. Huge protests recently forced Lee to announce the country would not send troops, but Lee has been exploring other ways for South Korea to actively assist the US war on Iran.
In this video, Professor Mohammad Marandi discusses these issues in an interview with Dae-Han Song.

On 20 September, South Korea’s Lee Administration stated that, contrary to foreign media coverage, it had not rejected Trump’s request for support in the Strait of Hormuz. Lee stated that he would not be deploying combat troops to the Strait of Hormuz but left open the possibility of sending an anti-piracy unit in the area.
So the struggle against deployment continues.
It is in South Korea and the world’s best interest to open the Strait of Hormuz by achieving peace through diplomacy.

Brazil Must Not Surrender Its Critical Minerals
by Vijay Prashad
Brazil holds around 23 percent of the world’s known rare-earth reserves but produces only a small share and lacks the industrial capacity to process these minerals into high-value products. As foreign companies move to secure Brazilian deposits, the country risks repeating a familiar pattern of exporting raw materials while retaining environmental costs and limited economic…

NATO is escalating its drive to war in Europe. At the 2025 NATO Summit the US demanded that European NATO states raise their levels of military spending to 5% of GDP (3.5% directly on the military and 1.5% on military related infrastructure). Most European NATO states have agreed to make the massive shifts of resources to this war-drive that the 5% target requires.
In this video, Dae-Han Song interviews Nel Bonilla about the current orientation of NATO, its 2025 and 2026 summits, and the division of labour between European states' making preparations to be directly involved in military combat, whilst the US directs the overall war-drive.
Nel Bonilla is an independent researcher and geographer, and the author of the Substack newsletter Worldlines.

The Presidents of Brazil, Kenya and the European Council and Prime Minister of Canada have signed a piece in the FT, calling for multilateralism to be strengthened not weakened.
Problems are best solved when countries cooperate rather than act alone.
"The real choice is not between preserving the international order established after the second world war or abandoning it. It is between renewing multilateral co-operation in a changing world, or allowing polarisation and power politics to define the next era."

President Lee "clarified" that Korean deployment wouldn't involve combat forces. But the fight isn't over. Lee shouldn't support Trump's illegal war of aggression. A path exists to open the Strait. And, it's not force, it's peace through the Islamabad MOU. ipa-aip.org/campaign/hands-o…

On 3 September South Korean President Lee’s Administration leaked the possibility of deploying Korean forces to the Strait of Hormuz.
The backlash was immediate from Korean civil society that opposes any type of support for Trump’s war of aggression.
Deploying forces will prolong Trump’s illegal war of aggression.
Instead of fanning the flames of war, we should fight to extinguish Trump’s forever wars.
