A young dad, with his son, has significant health issues. Like, he's really trying. He was asked to do this plan by income support. And he states he did this and more. Sends an email that confirms this. But still they cut him off. He calls me, shaken and feeling hopeless. He states he was told not to bother with a supervisor, as it wouldn't help(IT DOES). I'm meeting him on Monday. Until then, sending him funds for his son's food. He's also now looking at an eviction notice. @neudorf_ab The Minister and this government are cruel and unusual in the way they cut vulnerable families off supports, in my personal opinion. #abpoli #yyc #Lethbridge #Yeg

Such bullshit. The city of Edmonton (for example) launched a ten-year plan to "end homelessness" in 2009. Guess what? There are now more homeless people in Edmonton than ever. Bourgeois gov't "plans" to "end" social problems (caused by capitalism, of course) are worthless.

Guys, guys, I just called my Dem Congressman's office to tell him I don't want Jeffries as speaker and before I was even done with my preamble, the staffer said, let me guess what you're going to say...he said he's been hearing it all day and then he asked me what I'd like to see Democrats do and had a 10 minute conversation with me. He even asked me to repeat some items from my laundry list so he could write it down.
I also called my Senator. Who has also been getting calls about new leadership.

America is not a democracy, it is a corporatocracy. There is no socio-political state any longer; no morality, only the dominant ethic of corporate power. A totalitarian, unregulated, unaccountable corporate power that wields its will and might over all; that consumes and encapsulates everything.
Look at Palantir, look at Peter Theil and Larry Ellison or Elon or AIPAC, or the hundreds of lobbying firms embedded inside of the state apparatus and tell me who's really in charge.
The systems and structures in place serve to solely consolidate the corporate class' interests and cultivate a culture of exploitation— of human beings and nature. Everything has been engineered to be dictated through a perverse predatory logic.
Democracy is a myth; its all become a facade. The corporate class long ago transfused with the state (beginning with the Powell Memo) and now controls the entire political infrastructure and dictates the cultural landscape.
Corporate power will always side with and uphold the worst of authoritarian violence, repression, fascism, etc. Because ultimately, that is the goal of the corporate state. Corporations embed themselves within the political structure to assure unregulated influence that secures control over resources/ production.
Today, America is a corporatocracy run by and for an oligarchic elite that, as Chris Hedges describes; gives you a choice between a friendly, inclusive form of corporate fascism under the Democrats or a more raw, racist Christian fascism under the Republicans and especially Trump. Both sides seek to uphold and consolidate the same class interests and sustain a power dynamic that serves the wealthy.
Those interests do not include the well-being of the majority of Americans; the poor, vulnerable, and the marginalized there or across the world.
It all begins with the police.
Policing is not only a by-product of capitalism but THE essential tool in the enforcement of the class hierarchy and more fundamentally in consolidating the interests and power of the rich. When resources are not enough at home, they must be sought after beyond their own borders.
The police/ military aren't there for the people's protection or to serve them, they're made necessary because the rich gain their wealth and power by stealing from and exploiting the poor; they're fearful. The poor are only poor because of this— and they're criminalized for it.
The contemporary neoliberal hellscape exists because the state gutted the domestic infrastructure to sustain an ever expanding war machine aboard— both are byproducts of the corporate takeover of the state. All violence and its maintenance under capitalism is bound together as a result.
Life saving, essential services, and basic necessities are persistently drained to fuel this imperialist behemoth, which secures the power and interests of the elite who service the political class they've installed into place.
Most Americans are unable to comprehend these intersectionalities between the state's domestic repression as well as negligence towards it's own poor/ marginalized at home; and its broader imperial apparatus which devastates the poor and racialized overseas— for the same reasons.
Both parties are sponsored by, and exist to service, the same political/ corporate interests. Methods for enacting policies of violence may appear different between administrations, but the primary architecture and logic remains consistent. At the basis of their shared ultimate agenda is the maintenance of the empire at all costs; a continuation of the ever expanding project of white supremacist settler dominance— they will never jeopardize or abandon this.
Dismantling the Revolutionary Islamic State in Iran and the Axis of Resistance is an extension of this mandate. Vehement support for Israel as a critical imperialist outpost in Western Asia is a part of this. Confronting China eventually, is a part of this.
They may curb the ferocity with which they seek to meet these goals or actualize them, but they will never abandon them wholeheartedly.
As long as the Empire exists as is; as long as the corporatocracy and the hegemonic imperialist-zionist behemoth exists intertwined as is— these ambitions will never cease.

The Democrats may have taken control of the House and the Senate, they may have humiliated Donald Trump and the Republican Party, but the real fight is only beginning. It is not simply a battle to hold the corrupt Trump regime to account, something that can only be done if the Democrats are willing overcome their reluctance to carry out impeachment proceedings against the president. It is also a battle to sweep away the corporate-indentured hierarchy of the Democratic Party, including Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries.
The Democratic Party since the presidency of Bill Clinton, who gave us the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the greatest betrayal of the working class since the 1947 Taft-Hartley Act, and gutted New Deal-era welfare programs such as the Aid to Families with Dependent Children, is a more polished version of corporate and oligarchic rule, abjectly subservient to the war machine, the Israel lobby and their funders in the billionaire class.
The country is broken. Corruption, in both parties, is endemic. Federal agencies have been hollowed out and destroyed. The courts, including the Supreme Court, have been handed over to right-wing ideologues. The working class is crippled with debt peonage and substandard wages. Constitutional norms and protections have been erased. Billionaires, including Trump, pay little to no income tax. The 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court ruling, which allows big business to fund their hand-picked candidates, sustains a system of legalized bribery.
The public may clamor for a raise in the minimum wage, Medicare for All, regulation of the big banks and private equity firms, an end to arms shipments to Israel and campaign finance reform, but no one in the leadership of the Democratic Party listens or cares. They serve their paymasters.
Will cutthroat capitalism, sold to us under the sanitized name of neoliberalism, be allowed to continue to impoverish the citizenry and funnel wealth upwards into the hands of the 1 percent? Will corporations be regulated and policed? Will corporate criminals be brought to trial? Will our democracy be restored? Or will the grotesque sight of a trillionaire, Elon Musk, gutting federal agencies and pouring hundreds of millions into elections to try and control the outcome be normalized?
The handful of politicians who attempt to confront the corruption and the devastation visited on the American working class through deindustrialization and deregulation, such as Bernie Sanders, see their campaigns sabotaged by the Democratic Party leadership, including Barack Obama.
We must demand that progressive candidates, including Michigan senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed and Maine’s Troy Jackson, build coalitions to oust the Democratic Party leadership, raise the minimum wage, enact universal health care, prosecute corporate crime and impeach Trump. It will be up to us.
The Democratic Party hierarchy will see the results not as a repudiation of Trump, but an endorsement of the flaccid and ineffectual position of a party that stands for little and fights for less. This would be yet another betrayal by the Democrats of voters. It would keep alive the very real prospect of another fascist, one better organized and more intelligent, taking the White House in two years.
Of course, this fight will mean not only jettisoning a corrupt Democratic Party leadership, but turning on the mega-donors, lobbyists and corporations that fund and control the Democratic Party.
The effort to wrest the party back from the hands of corporations and oligarchs will be vicious and difficult. It will require us to rely on the power of mass movements to sever these bonds. Nothing else will work.
If we fail, our anemic democracy will not be saved by these midterm elections, but doomed.

The US midterms just delivered a massive landslide for the Democrats.
But what actually happened?
The American people didn’t vote for a radical change in foreign policy. They didn't vote to dismantle the war machine. They simply pulled the emergency brake on Trump.
But if you live in the Global South, you know better. You aren't looking at the ballot boxes; you're looking at the sky.
Let’s be real for a second. There will be absolutely zero progressive changes in US foreign policy.
The empire will keep waging its proxy wars.
The illegal sanctions will stay in place.
The siege of Gaza, the bombing of Lebanon, the blockade of Cuba, and the threats to annihilate Iranian civilization will all continue.
People need to remember why we got here. It was the failures of the Biden-Harris administration that paved the way for Trump in the first place. They ignored the American working class, managed the empire's decline, and funded endless wars while bridges collapsed at home.
The American people didn't vote for the Democrats this week because they suddenly fell in love with the establishment. They voted to put a leash on Trump's erratic, destructive chaos. They wanted to limit his power because they were terrified of his threats to "bomb entire civilizations back to the Stone Age."
But here is the dangerous illusion.
The voters rejected Trump’s style of imperialism. They rejected the loud, chaotic, unpredictable threats.
But they handed the keys right back to the "sober," quiet managers of the exact same empire.
And in some ways, the sober managers are more dangerous. Because they wrap the war machine in the polite language of "human rights" and the "rules-based order." They make the empire look respectable while it starves millions.
For the people in Latin America, in West Asia, in Africa, the US establishment is a single, continuous machine. It doesn’t matter if the person signing the drone strikes wears a red tie or a blue one. The machine's job is to secure the lithium, protect the oil, and maintain the 800 military bases around the world.
The American people voted to fix the steering wheel of a car that is driving the rest of the world off a cliff.
But they didn't touch the engine.
The empire remains. And the ledger stays open.

We all remember that moment in 2016, (I think it was day three or four after election day)- when @TheDemocrats, after spending an entire election cycle alienating, betraying and insulting their own base and rigging the primaries to stop a popular progressive tsunami only to end up losing the easiest election in history to Donald J. Trump- announced that Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer would be reelected.
As if nothing had happened.
That was the moment this Democratic Party proved once and for all that it cannot and will not be reformed from within until it is forced.
Until being corrupt and incompetent stops being more lucrative than being honest and trustworthy.
Here’s that moment. AIPAC is finished.
This Democratic Party did not, in any way, deserve to win the House and the Senate other than being (hopefully) better than the most horrendous criminal syndicate ever currently in power.
And so far, they have had absolutely nothing to offer and no intention to change course.
If America really wants change, the fight begins -and ends- with this Democratic Party.
Hakeem Jeffries, along with every single one of the dozens of AIPAC funded foreign agents in this Democratic Party, shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near Congress, let alone be elected Speaker of the House.
This is the most important fight now.
Organize. Protest. SHOW UP.
Now is the time.
Don’t let them get away with this again.

1 in 8 children in Toronto now rely on food banks.
Of families surveyed:
- 2/3 of parents have skipped a meal so their children could eat.
- More than 1 in 6 families have a child go hungry at least once a week.
- 1 in 4 families are spending ALL of their income on rent and utilities.

The Trump administration is auctioning off leases for deep-sea mining over a vast area of the Pacific on November 19—over 31 million acres.
It's not only about destroying fragile life on the seabed. Research published in Nature Communications shows how mining waste can disrupt zooplankton food supplies, threatening marine life throughout the food web—from microscopic organisms to great whales.
Selling off huge tracts of ocean for exploitation with a serious risk of untold damage and cascading effects lasting decades or longer is reckless, ignorant and must be opposed.
