Around 18 years ago, Firefighter Christian Remington attended his second-grade Mini Muster at Centennial Elementary School. Earlier this week, he returned to the Centennial Mini Muster, this time as one of the firefighters! We love hearing about our community’s Mini Muster memories! Who else remembers their Mini Muster experience? #Firefighters #FullCircleMoment #MiniMuster #LoveWhatYouDo

Cooler weather is finally here, but that doesn’t mean hiking in Southern Arizona comes without risks! Even when temperatures drop, desert trails can be challenging. Dehydration, rocky terrain, and unexpected changes in weather can still put hikers in danger. Before you hit the trail, make sure you are prepared. ☀️ Check the forecast and plan your hike around good weather. 💧 Bring plenty of water and drink regularly. 🥾 Wear sturdy, supportive footwear and bring safety essentials. 📍 Know your route and tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to return. 🏜️ Start with a hike that matches your fitness and experience. Turn back if conditions change or if you’re struggling. If you or someone in your group becomes ill, injured, or dangerously overheated, stop and call 911 if needed. Hike safely! #HikerSafety #SouthernArizona #CareForOurCommunity

More Mini Muster photos to share! Mini Musters bring classroom fire safety lessons to life through a series of stations with fun, hands-on challenges. From responding to smoke alarms and crawling low under simulated smoke, to checking doors for heat and practicing home fire escape plans, students get to put what they’ve learned into action! It’s a fun way to turn important lessons into skills students can carry with them beyond the classroom. #MiniMusters #FireSafety #NWFDAZ

Did you know pumpkins have a place in wildland firefighting? These portable water tanks, nicknamed “pumpkins” for their shape and often bright orange color, help crews store water in areas where it’s needed for firefighting operations. A little October fact, with a wildland firefighting twist! 🎃 #WildlandFirefighting #FireSafety #October

Last week, we had the privilege of officially bringing Ladder 336 into service! Ladder companies play an important role in fireground operations. A new ladder is more than a new piece of equipment. It’s an investment in our ability to save lives, protect property, and care for our community. We’re incredibly grateful to our community for the support that makes it possible! Thanks to you, this ladder will serve our community for years to come. Here are some photos from Ladder 336’s traditional push-in ceremony! #NWFDAZ #FireService #CareForOurCommunity

Spooky season is here! If you decorate for Halloween, make sure your decorations aren’t creating a fire hazard. 🕯️ Choose battery-operated candles. 🔥 Keep decorations away from heat sources and open flames. 🚪 Keep doors, exits, and walkways clear so you can safely escape in an emergency. 🏠 Don’t block your address or house numbers. A little preparation goes a long way toward a safer Halloween! (Source: NFPA) #HalloweenSafety #FirePrevention #NWFDAZ Video Description: Video features clips of Halloween decorations illuminated by flashing emergency lights from a fire engine, set to spooky Halloween-themed music.

No one runs alone! Mini Musters put fire life safety lessons into action with hands-on challenges that reinforce what students have learned in the classroom. Students complete the stations in teams. And if there’s an uneven team? A firefighter steps in to make sure no one runs alone! That’s what our Mini Musters are all about: reinforcing important fire safety lessons and creating connections between students and the firefighters who serve their community! #MiniMuster #FireSafety #FirePreventionMonth #NWFDAZ (Video Description: Video shows two clips of firefighters completing events at a mini muster, along with photos of students participating. Upbeat music plays throughout the video.)

There’s always something happening in the Prevention Division! Yesterday, it was the Contractor’s Coffee Forum! The Contractor’s Coffee Forum is a semi-annual discussion bringing together Fire Prevention staff from across Southern Arizona with contractors, engineers, architects, and interested community members. The forum provides an opportunity to discuss fire code requirements, fire systems design and installation, and other topics related to development and fire safety. These conversations help foster collaboration, answer questions, and keep fire safety an important part of the development process. #FirePrevention #ContractorsCoffeeForum #NWFDAZ

Last Thursday, firefighters responded to a small RV fire. There were no injuries, and the fire was quickly extinguished. But for firefighters, the work doesn’t stop, or start, there. When you call 911, you’re not just getting a crew that knows how to fight a fire. You’re getting people who continually train, maintain their equipment, and reset after every call so they’re ready for yours. Before the call, crews are focused on training and preparedness. They keep their apparatus, tools, and equipment in working order and continually train to stay prepared for any call that could happen at any time. During the fire, no matter the size, the focus is on a seamless response. Crews work together to accomplish the task safely and quickly. After the fire, the work continues. Tools and equipment are cleaned, gear is reset, and crews make sure everything is ready for the next call. The call may be over, but the hard work never stops. #Firefighters #FireResponse #NWFDAZ

Charge into Fire Safety! This Fire Prevention Week, we’re sharing a few simple ways to help prevent lithium-ion battery fires. The NFPA recommends: 🔌 Use the right charger. Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. 🔋 Unplug when fully charged. Don’t leave devices charging longer than necessary. 🛋️ Choose a hard surface. Charge devices on a hard, flat surface, not on beds, couches, or pillows where heat can build up. 🚨 Know the warning signs. Stop using a device if it gets unusually hot, swells, smells strange, leaks, smokes, or makes popping or hissing sounds. From phones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools, lithium-ion batteries are part of our everyday lives. Make smart choices every time you plug in. Safe Charging Is a Superpower! #FirePreventionWeek #ChargeIntoFireSafety #BatterySafety #LithiumIonSafety #NWFDAZ

Helmet on, every ride! With Walk & Bike to School Day happening today for some students and fall break underway for others, more kids and families may be out walking, biking, and spending time in our neighborhoods. For riders: Make helmet safety part of every trip. A properly fitted helmet can help protect your head and reduce the risk of serious injury in a crash. For drivers: Slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully for people walking and biking, especially in neighborhoods, school zones, and at intersections. Let’s all do our part to help keep our roads and neighborhoods safe! #WalkBikeToSchoolDay #HelmetSafety #BikeSafety #FallBreak #NWFDAZ
