A team of experts free from political bias needs to travel across India to understand what our poverty actually looks like on the ground.
Headline numbers must be examined carefully.
I once did this exercise for Shamika Ravi.
Last year, the Indus Valley report observed that around 80% of Indians have negligible or zero ability to spend on discretionary goods.
Rama Bijapurkar is widely regarded as one of the most reliable experts on Indian consumption.
Her consumer segmentation:
L5 (Affluent): Annual household spend of ₹11.24 lakh+, covering just 25 million people
L4 (Resilient): ₹5.4 to 7 lakh, covering 71 million people
L3 (Real Middle): ₹3.8 to 5.4 lakh, covering 200 million people
L2 (Strained Mass): ₹2.2 to 3.8 lakh, covering 432 million people
L1 (Vulnerables): ₹1.1 to 2.2 lakh, covering a massive 707 million people
These figures refer to household expenditure, not individual spending.
Taken together, L1 and L2 account for nearly 80% of India’s population. For them, everyday life is a constant struggle. They are living on the edge.
The others are not living in luxury, but the scale of vulnerability at the bottom is stark.
80% of the country is just surviving and that too with great difficulty.
Over the years I have shared extensive data on income, expenditure, wealth and poverty.
We see only what we want to see.
We simply refuse to face reality.

Remember Rajesh Exports, GOI gave PLI contract to this Lala firm for battery storage technology. Recently SEBI, found out, their turnover and revenue, are all propped up, just like Satyam computer did in 2005. Thats itself says, how serious this GOI is about stragetic sectors.

Business World magazine has a sensational scoop based on the internal minutes of a Committee of Secretaries on Disinvestment showing how rules were changed for the controversial privatisation of IDBI Bank which was sold to Canada based Fairfax Financial Holdings at Rs 52,878 crore ($5.55 billion) at Rs 81 per share.
The internal minutes state that the initial sealed bids from Fairfax and another entity came well below the confidentially set minimum reserve price of Rs 94.42. The Fairfax bids came at Rs 75. So what do the babus do? They pull off something unprecedented but do it openly and transparently. They move to another valuation method and ask Fairfax and another bidder (strangely not named because it was later rejected by Home Ministry for security reasons!) to give new bids. This time Fairfax bids Rs 81 per share , still well below the original reserve price of Rs. 94.42. Then Fairfax says this is the final offer and it would withdraw if not accepted. The government accepts it and also gives some relief on disputed tax claims on IDBI Bank. Tax payer also makes a hefty contribution here!
The deal goes through at Rs 81 per share(the original reserve price was Rs 94.42) and the internal note strangely gives reasons why this sale was necessary for the government at this juncture- Fiscal stress on Centre due to high energy prices, lack of FDI inflows and the currency under strain because of the global energy crises!
As per Business World report the justification for change of rules and methodology for the sale of IDBI Bank came from the General Financial Rules for sale of government physical assets but not shares. Then it cites the Railway Stores Code on auctioning scrap:
"Bids lower than the reserve prices may, however, be accepted by the Depot Officer where found expedient provided the Depot Officer doing so records his reasons in writing."
In my 40 years of journalism I have not come across such justification for privatisation.
Business World's Palak Shah must be commended for this investigation.

In february 2010, japan offered to enrich uranium for iran.
Two months later, an israeli defense-linked firm suddenly secured a japanese nuclear surveilance safety contract.
Less than a year later, fukushima exploded.

the thing is kolkata's history with ritual stuff is tied to long standing deeply embedded religious beliefs and ancient occult frameworks....
whereas in bihar, these kinds of horrific incidents are driven purely by raw poverty, desperation, and structural collapse... now because
This is the only religion, which is fervently war with vegetables. After meat, onion, and Garlic. Now their traget is Potato.
