With trees being treated like shit, want to get this. Probably a generic read but possibly an important one.
Unbowed by Wangari Maathai Wangari Maathai recounts her extraordinary life. When Maathai founded the Green Belt Movement in 1977, she began a vital poor people's environmental movement, focused on the empowerment of women, that soon spread across Africa. Persevering through run-ins with the Kenyan government and personal losses, and jailed and beaten on numerous occasions, Maathai continued to fight tirelessly to save Kenya's forests and to restore democracy to her beloved country. nuriakenya.com/product/unbow… KShs2,000.00

Warriors Life and Death Among the Somalis by Gerald Hanley Somalia is one of the world's most desolate, sun-scorched lands, inhabited by fierce and independent-minded tribesmen. It was here that Gerald Hanley spent the Second World War, charged with preventing bloodshed between feuding tribes at a remote outstation. Rations were scarce, pay infrequent and his detachment of native soldiers near-mutinous. In these extreme conditions seven British officers committed suicide, but Hanley describes the period as the 'most valuable time' of his life. With intense curiosity and openmindedness, he explores the effects of loneliness. He comes to understand the Somalis' love of fighting and to admire their contempt for death. 'Of all the races of Africa,' he says, 'there cannot be one better to live among than the most difficult, the proudest, the bravest, the vainest, the most merciless, the friendliest: the Somalis.' nuriakenya.com/product/warri… KShs2,890.00 – at Nairobi, Kenya

Today, Nuria Bookstore at the Bazaar turned into a mini chess arena. Our little champs came ready to play, practise and plot their next big move, and they did not disappoint. There were fun games, sharp strategy, brand new tactics and plenty of proud "I won!" moments, all surrounded by books. Huge thanks to the LCK Chess Club for teaming up with us, and to every child, parent and coach who made it such a joy. Great minds really do start young, and we're already planning the next round. nuriakenya.com

This is a powerful book. @KakwenzaRukira brings his sharp legal mind and fearless storytelling to a gripping erotic legal thriller that asks hard questions about justice, evidence, and power. The title Wanyita meaning “you are killing me” — perfectly captures how desire and danger can blur into each other, and how one person’s pleasure can become another’s destruction when systems fail. From the intensity of the relationship between George and Veronica to the high-stakes courtroom battle that follows, the novel forces readers to confront uncomfortable truths about truth, money, and morality. It’s bold, well-crafted, and impossible to ignore. Highly recommended for anyone who values African literature that challenges and entertains at the same time.
WANYITA: Moans of Pleasure…Evidence Of Murder by Kakwenza @KakwenzaRukira A sharp legal twist, examining the weight of justice, money, and morality. The dual subtitle ("moans of pleasure" vs. "evidence of murder") serves as a metaphor for a broken society where what entertains or provides pleasure to one person can simultaneously destroy another. nuriakenya.com/product/wanyi… KShs1,500.00

Art and stories can inspire people to see nature differently, and to act on that connection. 💚 Here I am, in Kenya, in a forest, holding my first children’s picture book, The Forest Is a Part of Me, and wearing artwork from the mural of me painted in Estonia by Viktoria Berezina. Two different forms of art, both connected to my love for nature and the work I do to protect it. There is power in seeing someone care for a forest, grow a tree or stand up for nature, whether on a wall or in the pages of a book. A child might see themselves in that story and think, “I can do that too.” That is how art can become part of conservation: by inspiring actions that continue beyond the picture or the page. Special thanks to Michelle pereira for the beautiful illustrations on my Children’s Picture Book, The Forest is a Part of Me, and Little Tiger publishers for bringing this book to life. Special thanks to Viktoria Berezina too for sharing this message through your art and the Tree of Life Mural still standing tall in Narva, Estonia. ❤️ @GGI_Kenya
