Spent the last couple days on Willow. They were displacing folks due to an event with a politician happening tonight. Sweeps are very traumatic, by design. Why so many cops? Why ANY cops?! Well, because it’s a Sweep. Get rid of tents. Most folks moved to the next alley. – at San Francisco, CA

Joe Lonsdale’s Cicero Institute lobbies to make homelessness a crime. Lonsdale, billionaire co-founder of the weapons tech company Palantir, is now a major force behind Trump's dangerous policies of forcing homeless people into jails and detention camps. motherjones.com/politics/202…

.@ezraklein: “What is, to you, the ‘rage economy’?”
@JamesTalarico: “The billionaires own the algorithms and the news networks. They have created for-profit platforms that divide us on an hourly basis — by party, by race, by gender, by religion. They elevate the most extreme voices very strategically to provoke our outrage, because that leads to more clicks, which leads to more money for them.
They are selling us conflict right into our bloodstream, and they’re calling it connection.
And I think it’s left people starving for actual community.”

This week there were two pretty contentious community meetings about Upzoning. There are the legit concerns people are articulating about the Upzoning plan. The question is — if and when an alternative plan is put forward, would the Mayor & all Supes embrace it? 1/

Hey Scotty, who are the grifters here?
The head of the latest billionaire funded PAC? Or the non profit workers who make a fraction of his paycheck helping our city’s most vulnerable?

Tent counts aren’t a measurement of reduced homelessness. They are a measurement of reduced visible homelessness.
SF still has ~4000 unsheltered homeless folks despite the number of tents declining to under 200. With how aggressive arrests have been I’m surprised it’s not 0.
Every day, our coordinated, multiagency teams are out in communities helping get people off the street and indoors. Thanks to that work, we are seeing real progress, with the number of tents citywide dropping to the lowest point we’ve seen since before the pandemic.
Our work is far from done, and we will continue to be relentless in tackling the behavioral health and homelessness crisis from all angles, especially in the streets.

the footage reflects even more poorly on the opposing Supervisors than I could have imagined. Good lord.
Two of the board’s most conservative supervisors, who call themselves ‘moderates,’ attempted to kill a measure that would have called on the mayor to stop evicting unhoused families from city shelters after 90 days.

There is no housing in DC. Shelters are full. Where does @MayorBowser expect people to go? Bowing to Trump and his billionaire friends won't do anything to solve homelessness, but it is causing further harm to our unhoused neighbors and wasting taxpayer dollars.

Well my old friend Jay Bhattacharya is having his Senate confirmation hearing today so time for a quick refresher on who this guy is.
A mass infection proponent who never met a contrarian position he wouldn’t take for personal gain.

“Experts agree clearing or ‘sweeping’ encampments alone can’t end homelessness. But here’s what we did see over and over as a result of sweeps: people becoming more likely to lose touch with support services, people losing essential items…”

Appreciate that this assessment includes an honest admission that limited shelter / treatment bed capacity is a constraint.
We know that people will accept shelter offers when appropriate offers are made.
Mayor Breed almost never publicly admitted to this reality 💁♀️
2 weeks ago we launched a 30 day mobile triage pilot to improve street conditions on 6th street. Here is a memo outlining the progress, early learnings, and data collected.
What worked well: improved street conditions, cross-department collaboration, service placements and arrests
What didn’t work as well: ran out of shelter / treatment bed capacity daily, struggled with journey home completions, displacement
We’ll report back in 2 weeks at the conclusion of the 30 day pilot with learnings and suggested next steps.

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at @USAID.
This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC.
What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

They’re letting a megalomaniac billionaire desperate for validation play President – if you’re surprised people are pissed, you need to get out of your DC bubble.
Nothing more American than hating a bad boss, especially an illegitimate one like Musk.
Republicans just don’t like being called on it.
