Important Update: Bus Stop Changes Due to Hurricane Impact   Dear Volusia County Schools Families,   Following a thorough review of our bus stops and routes by the transportation team, some adjustments have been made to ensure student safety. We have established alternative routes in areas where existing bus stops are either inaccessible or pose safety concerns.   If your child’s bus stop is affected, you will receive a notification through Focus Communications this afternoon or evening. Additionally, your child’s school will be informed to assist with any further questions or concerns. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. Ensuring the safety and well-being of all our students is our top priority.   Thank you for your attention to this matter.   Volusia County Schools Transportation Team

Good afternoon, VCS families, We hope that this message finds you and your loved ones safe and secure after Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Florida this morning. While Volusia County was spared much of the impact, our thoughts go out to those who experienced and continue to experience greater effects and damage from the storm. At this time, all schools have been inspected and cleared with no damage. Volusia County Schools is ready to reopen tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 31. Families and employees, please return to your usual school schedules starting in the morning. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time. We plan to share more information on instructional make-up time in the near future. We look forward to seeing you back at school tomorrow.

**Volusia County Schools Official Statement** As we continue to work with the county’s Emergency Operations Center to closely track Hurricane Idalia, the safety of our students and community members remains our highest priority. As such, all Volusia County public school and district activities will cease at 8 p.m. this evening, and all schools and district offices will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 30. All school activities, events, and programs scheduled for Wednesday are canceled. Any VCS employee expected to report to work on Wednesday will be contacted by their supervisor. Make-up time for the lost instructional day will be announced in the near future. At this time, we anticipate students will be able to return to school on Thursday, Aug. 31. However, we will continue assessing the situation and provide an update by midday on Wednesday. As a reminder, the county has opened shelters in lieu of the district closing any schools for shelter. These shelters are located at the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County for individuals with special needs and the Volusia County Fairgrounds for the general population. Please take this time to finish making preparations for the storm, and please follow any emergency orders from the county. Updates will continue to be made available on our website (vcsedu.org/community/storm-r…).
