Grateful to participate in @OCASE9’s Spring Symposium to strengthen our support of exceptional learners. How are we defining meaningful access to education (@ntymochenko)? We are also diving back into evidence-based math (with @DiemertCarrey & @Alicia_Tilker). @alcdsb #alcdsbMYSP

Michael Jacques enlightens us at the OCASE symposium and teaches educators to focus on the things we can do and not what we can’t do. He and his father share how successful students with disabilities can be given the right supports. Amazing story from a very accomplished man!

This afternoon I was with Special Education staff with OCASE. These individuals work extremely hard for students with special education needs in their school boards. Sharing my story with them reminded me of the great staff that worked with me when I was a student. @OCASE9

Michael reminds educators that support workers can sometimes over support students and “crowd” them. He told us that it’s okay to fail, you learn from your mistakes. An important message about reducing dependency in our high needs students.

Thank you to Nadya Tymochenko for providing clarity on the OAP (Ontario Autism Program) and the many recommendations that have come out of litigation. She highlighted the importance of placement options, and how we define education services and program delivery.
