Michael Carrick will doubtless pay the price with his job for this deserved defeat to an excellent Bournemouth side and another lifeless display by his Manchester United team. Some of his selections and tactics have been questionable, United were again so open in the centre. But Carrick was not responsible for recruiting Youri Tielemans, who lacks physicality and mobility (and Aston Villa haven’t missed him) and Andrey Santos, a Chelsea reserve.
Carrick was not responsible for the board’s damaging failure to strengthen at centre-back and left-back. Carrick was not responsible for his main striker Benjamin Sesko being injured and the board’s failure to provide him with cover. Carrick was not responsible for the club he loves being in the grip of co-owners like the Glazers whose priorities are focused more on business than the sport. The direction from the top has been negligible, arguably negligent. No real leadership. No expertise.
Carrick may be out of his depth but many United fans sang his name during the painful demise to Bournemouth because they know he cares and they know the problems lie elsewhere. The Stretford End again sang in protest at the wretched Glazers.
Noticeable that there were few songs in support of Bruno Fernandes. He is supposed to be captain, rallying the players, Footballer of the Year, Player of the Year, not arm-waver of the year, underachieving and complaining. Yet Bruno will be at United longer than Carrick.
Carrick was praised for United finishing third last season and getting in the Champions League. But he will doubtless go partly for his own failings and mainly the failings of others. And United will be trapped in this doom loop again. And again until the core problems are addressed in the boardroom - and the Glazers sell up - and flaws in the recruitment department. #MUFC #MUNBOU

Gary Neville has finally had enough of these Manchester United players.
He brands them a “wrecking ball” for managers over the last few years, and says they’re at it again!
Senior players publicly questioning the manager tells you exactly how bad things have got. If that’s what’s being said on camera, what’s happening behind closed doors?
“We’re only getting 1 or 2 percent of what he actually thinks. Imagine what they’re like in there. Imagine what they’re saying in there. It will be toxic.”
Neville points to Michael Carrick’s pre-match press conference as proof of how low the club has sunk. Carrick had to stand there and spell out the values of Manchester United — a message clearly aimed at the players, not the fans. The supporters don’t need reminding what this club stands for.
“If you’re having to remind them of history, values and character traits to play for this football club, you’re at a pretty low point.”
Carrick has dropped Bruno Fernandes for Bournemouth and he’s right to do it. Publicly criticising the manager is unacceptable, especially when your own performances have been so poor. It’s a senior player, the club CAPTAIN, undermining the man trying to fix the mess.
Carrick looks like a manager who’s finally had enough and is ready to tell a few honest truths. It will be rough. It has to be. These players have been allowed to run the show for far too long.
The fans will back him. They know better than anyone what these players are like. Player power at Manchester United has gone on for long enough.

Am Freitagabend, 23. Oktober 2026, stand das Kehlsteinhaus auf dem Obersalzberg bei Berchtesgaden in Vollbrand.
Das historische Gebäude, 1938 von der NS-Führung als Teehaus für Hitler errichtet und international als Adlerhorst bekannt, brannte weitgehend nieder. Verletzte gab es nach bisherigen Erkenntnissen nicht.
Die Polizei nahm noch in der Nacht einen 33-jährigen Deutschen fest. Der Mann mit Wohnsitz in Berlin (woher sonst) und kam den Einsatzkräften auf einem roten Motorrad ohne Kennzeichen auf der steilen Kehlsteinstraße entgegen. Er verströmte Brandgeruch und versuchte zu fliehen. Die Beamten stellten ihn. Gegen ihn besteht dringender Tatverdacht wegen vorsätzlicher Brandstiftung.
Ein psychiatrisches Kurzgutachten ergab eine psychische Erkrankung. Der Ermittlungsrichter erließ daraufhin einen Unterbringungshaftbefehl. Der 33-Jährige wurde noch am Samstag in eine geschlossene psychiatrische Einrichtung eingewiesen. Staatsanwaltschaft und Kriminalpolizei Traunstein prüfen die Hintergründe und das Motiv – darunter auch ein mögliches politisches. Aussagen des Beschuldigten sind laut Ermittlern wegen der Erkrankung mit Vorsicht zu betrachten.
Die moderne Psychiatrie hat erstaunliche Fortschritte gemacht. Benötigte man früher noch wochenlange Sitzungen mit dem Patienten, um eine Geisteskrankheit zu diagnostizieren, kann man das heutzutage direkt im Polizeiwagen noch vor der ersten Pressekonferenz über einen Schnelllecktest.
Färbt sich der Teststreifen grün, ist der Täter verrückt und schuldunfähig und die Tat hat keinen politischen oder islamistischen Hintergrund. Jegliche weiteren Diskussionen oder Ermittlungen in diese Richtung sind damit hinfällig.

Sympathised with Carrick before today and genuinely felt for him during his monologue. Was in the front row and he made eye contact with those of us sat before him throughout those six minutes. Carrick merits respect for that and if or when he does go, he will go with dignity. He's never hidden (unlike some players and staff), has no issue fronting up and accepts the realities of the situation. There will be more goodwill towards him from matchgoers on Sunday. #mufc
