Fantastic news! #SpellowLibrary reopens today after it was severely damaged by rioters this summer. Last night over 120 libraries across the country showed solidarity with colleagues in Liverpool by light a lamp or light in the library's windows. #ShareTheLight #SpellowLibrary

Never forget: READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest positive impact of any factor on children's life chances. So never stop sharing books with kids. Never stop reading to them, and helping them to read. Never stop changing lives. #literacy

Our Narnia Christmas decorations are up! There's a festive trail running from The Store hotel at the end of Broad Street, up to our shop in the Weston Library, culminating in a life size scene of snow-topped trees in Blackwell Hall. Here's a sneak peek!

This has been reshared a lot recently. Many #schoollibrarians are sharing stats which show that reading in their schools is not in decline-quite the reverse. The evidence is clear: having a librarian in school can build and embed a reading culture. Follow us to find out more.
⚠️Reading enjoyment has fallen across all ages.⚠️ The sharpest decline is among pupils aged 11-14 - from 40.4% in 2023 to 30.7% in 2024. As children transition to secondary school, their reading engagement dips - a trend that is worsening. Learn more: literacytrust.org.uk/researc…

1/ This year my school library has loaned more books than ever before. I’ve spent 2 years building up a collection of books that the kids actually want to read - comedy, romance & crime are our most popular genres, comics the most popular medium. Years 7, 8 & 9

Today we'll mostly be reading The Hundred and One Dalmatians and I Capture the Castle because author Dodie Smith was born #OnThisDay in 1896! We'd love to hear if you've seen these books get children reading...
