In 2018, Elon Musk sat down with Joe Rogan and told the whole world exactly what was going to happen with AI.
Everyone missed it. Because 2 hours later he took one puff of a joint, and that's the only thing the internet remembered.
I went back and watched the AI part. Give it 25 minutes of your life. You'll never look at your phone the same way.
Here's what I took away.
1. He saw the race coming and tried to stop it.
Rogan asks him about AI. Musk goes quiet. Then:
"I tried to convince people to slow down AI, to regulate AI. This was futile. I tried for years. Nobody listened."
He says he even raised it with Obama directly.
Rogan calls him fatalistic. Musk doesn't argue.
2. He explained why the law will always be too late.
Regulation is slow, he says. That timeframe isn't relevant to AI.
And then the line that aged the hardest:
"We can't wait ten years to the point where something is dangerous to do something about AI. It will be too late."
That was September 2018.
Count the years.
3. He told us we're already cyborgs.
Not in a sci-fi way. In a boring, obvious way.
Your phone, he says, is an extension of yourself. You already have superpowers in your pocket. The only problem is the connection.
"You just can't communicate through fingers, it's too slow."
That's why he was building Neuralink. He said it was months away. People laughed.
Today it has chips in human brains.
4. He wasn't saying "stop AI." He was saying "don't get left behind by it."
This is the part almost nobody quotes. His fear wasn't robots with guns. It was AI moving so fast that humans become irrelevant to it. His answer: if you can't beat it, merge with it.
Now here's what got me.
In 2018 he said "nobody listened."
In 2023 he signed a public letter asking every lab to pause giant AI experiments for 6 months.
In September 2026, the head of Anthropic warned that AI has moved drastically faster since the summer and called on everyone to slow down. Musk and Sam Altman backed him.
8 years later, the people building it are saying exactly what he said on a podcast everyone remembers for the weed.
My takeaway:
He wasn't early. We were late.
The warning was free. It was on the most popular podcast on Earth. 7.8 million people watched just this clip.
And most of us scrolled past it to see the joint.
So now I'm asking you:
Was Musk right in 2018?
Or is this still overblown?
Tell me below. I genuinely want to know where people land on this.
According to Korean media, Samsung and SK Hynix are not seeing canceled memory orders after the United States midterms.
Meritz Securities checked the Americas sales networks of Samsung, SK Hynix, and $MU and said there are no abnormal signs of demand rolling over so 2027 demand is already locked in through long term contracts.
One industry official put it simply. Thirty people are already lined up at a restaurant that is full, and five of them leaving does not create a table.
Modo Energy estimates about 11 gigawatts of planned data centers could be paused, mostly in Texas but if those projects just MOVE to other states or overseas, the net hit to United States capacity by 2030 shrinks to about 3 GW.
Meta and Microsoft are already looking at building outside the United States and the chips still have to ship somewhere.

According to Korean media, Samsung and SK Hynix already price in a MEMORY crash that has not happened.
Samsung Securities worked BACKWARD from today's stock prices and to justify where the shares trade, memory average selling prices would need to fall about 39.5% for Samsung and about 29.3% for SK Hynix by 2027.
Strip out HBM, and the implied collapse gets even uglier because conventional memory prices would need to fall about 45.7% for Samsung and about 35.9% for SK Hynix.
The analysts are not forecasting that crash and they are saying the STOCK MARKET is already treating it as the base case.
According to Korean media, South Korea's stock market just hit the PANIC button.
The KOSPI fell more than 8% in the first minutes of trading and broke below 5,000, triggering a 20 minute circuit breaker.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both plunged around 10% or more at the open as the AI selloff on Wall Street spilled into Asia.
The index later bounced and was last seen around 5,165, down about 4%, with Samsung and SK Hynix still deep in the red but off their worst levels.
Retail investors have been heavy buyers of those two chip names through the selloff, so Seoul just suspended the 140% margin collateral rule for securities firms for three months starting November 9.
That is the same emergency tool Korea used in 2022 to stop forced margin liquidations.
