Labour's 2024 Manifesto said that it was 'discriminatory' to have different minimum wage rates for younger and older workers. They pledged to abolish 'discriminatory age bands.' Healey has reneged - and Labour has now broken another promise. Stupid, short-sighted stuff.
Labour now briefing young people won't get the same minimum wage uplift. Even Starmer didn't break this pledge. Workers rights mean same rights, pay & conditions, same rate for the same job. What does this Labour government have against young people? inews.co.uk/news/politics/mi…

Conditions in Serbia are very different but English leftists ought to explain why they are so determined not to use something like this approach to build collective agency. Why are we still hellbent on ensuring that power remains the sole possession of those who want it most?

For once, briefly, I feel sorry for Oriel. The last three rounds of government legislation about external speakers in HEIs have made it impossible for those HEIs to ban any right-wing speakers, however loathsome, without being sued to death. They can't cancel this.
Oriel College @OrielOxford is hosting a white supremacist to cover news that Dr Lola Salem has been charged with possessing child abuse images. The same white supremacist that Cambridge used to cover news of the dodgy dealings of James Orr for reform.

This is why Israel, despite loud protestations to the contrary, is not a democracy -- and hasn't been since 1967.
"Q. How democratic is the Israeli vote – and who is being disenfranchised? A: About 15 million people live in areas under Israeli control. Just over 7 million Jewish Israelis and 1.7 million Palestinian citizens of Israel live within the country’s pre-1967 borders, known as the “green line”, and have full voting rights. In the occupied West Bank, more than 500,000 Israeli settlers can vote. They live among 3.1 million Palestinians who are subject to military rule and do not have the right to vote. In occupied East Jerusalem more than 230,000 Israelis with voting rights live among 350,000 Palestinians who cannot vote. Two million Palestinians in Gaza, who live under Israeli military occupation, according to the international court of justice, also have no vote." theguardian.com/world/2026/o…

Solidarity and thanks to @EdinburghGreens MSP Kate Nevins, @labourlewis, @nickdearden75, @SamTarry and @larabirdsnp who tried to get into the West Bank from Jordan to help with the olive harvest today, but were turned back by Israeli soldiers.
I have been detained by Israeli security forces all day. Along with with MPs @labourlewis, @larabirdsnp, MSP Kate Nevans, former MP @SamTarry and campaigners from across the world, we were turned back because they don’t want anyone seeing their ethnic cleansing.

It's videos like this which have changed my opinion on Zionism. I don't think that there's any way it can leave the Revisionist path any more. There could well have been in the past, but successive choices by Israeli voters have closed that off.
"Carpet bomb them all". Speaking to The Guardian at an event ahead of Israel’s elections, a young Israeli woman called for Palestinians to be forcibly displaced from the Gaza Strip, saying they should be killed if they cannot be removed.

One of the highlights of my time in Jordan was visiting UNWRA archives and examining the index cards and other records of the 750,000 Palestinians kicked off their land at the Nakba in 1948. They used to be kept in Gaza and were airlifted out at the beginning of the genocide- Israel has destroyed all the archives that remained. They form the best evidence for some form of reparations in the future and are now being scanned and digitalised

Trump confirms scoop. Tells reporters he and Burnham spoke about North Sea ("Andy is getting it done, and I guess it's against the liberal principle, but he knows what's right") But remains tight lipped about Ukraine/Iran - says they spoke "lightly" about both topics

This is absolutely insane. The UK seems to have been involved in the kidnapping of Maduro - and the story spiked by an MOD D-Notice. The kidnapping was the most brazen act of criminality, and UK involvement would almost certainly have been given with Starmer's sign-off. A wretched, wreck of a PM. An unforgivable assault on international law.
🚨 A UK defence editor had information that UK Special Forces operating in Central America were involved in the US kidnapping of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro in Jan 2026 Article was never published after UK military's 'D-Notice' censorship body told the editor to spike it

'History' is very rarely unequivocal about this kind of thing, so I doubt that. But maybe one day it will be studied alongside Calvin's Geneva, C16th Spain, post-1979 Iran, Modi's India, etc.
I think history will be unequivocal that zionism was the worst thing that happened to judaism, allowing an ancient religion to be hijacked and replaced by a racist, genocidal ideology.

It was tiktoks like this, from the troops engaged in genocide in Gaza, which made me realise that the co-existence trend within Zionism is dead. The Revisionists are in the driving seat, and there's no prospect of them giving it up while US backing continues.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
I’m so disappointed. Last year, Andy Burnham stood alongside Massive Attack and called the #FossilFuelTreaty a “lifeline.” He urged governments to end coal, oil and gas expansion and hold polluters accountable. Yesterday, his government approved a new North Sea gas field. 🧵

I'm not sure what Miatta's "common sense" approach will look like when we all share this during the next round of wildfires and floods. Insulate homes. Invest in renewables. Keep fossil fuels in the ground.
A "common sense" approach to climate change & clean energy can fend off challenges from the Greens, energy sec Miatta Fahnbulleh told @politicshome Zack Polanski said Labour had “abandoned all credibility in the fight against climate change" by approving gas drilling at Jackdaw

I wrote to the Government with cross-party MPs last night opposing this decision. Rosebank and Jackdaw won’t cut bills they'll just boost profits of fossil fuel giants. If every country pursues its own deluded self interest the costs of climate breakdown will be unbearable.
