The mayor and council gave all the money to the Oakland police union. The underfunded city workers appear unimpressed.

It also appears to incentivize veteran officers retiring after receiving a sizable pension bump. Councilmembers did not ask for clarification after the issue was raised 🤷♀️

Honestly too busy with projects to make much of a fuss but @thevallejosun is FIVE YEARS OLD today.
We launched with almost nothing in 2021 and just had a goal of providing in-depth, consistent local news. We're still here and still growing!

Elon Musk keeps falsely calling Hitler a “socialist” and Grok keeps correcting him that Hitler was a fascist who rejected Marxism.
Grok is going to get suspended again for telling the truth and reprogrammed for exposing the lies of his deceitful creator.

This EPA policy was passed in such a rushed manner that it needed to be said. CM Houston wants to this to be implemented in 3 days but the city does not have the resources to do so in a responsible way. She is right, if the city is not careful we are gonna to see more lawsuits.

This is what Oakland needs. We’ve seen the videos from other sanctuary cities where local officers have supported ICE activity.

Our government is desecrating its role in society by hosting sporting events. Our tax dollars and resources are funding this operation. The government is supposed to protect us, not entertain us.

The baseless election fraud conspiracy theories on this crap website all rely on ignorance of basic facts.
Why so long to count CA’s vote?
1. Universal mailed ballots
2. 7 day grace period for timely postmarked mailed ballots
3. Competitive districts
4. Most populous state….

Statement on the Resignation of the City Administrator
I have met with and accepted the resignation of City Administrator Jestin Johnson. On Friday evening, I learned about certain degrading and unprofessional communications involving Mr. Johnson. We promptly conducted our own investigation and verified these communications, which are wholly incompatible with the values of this administration and those of the people of Oakland. Under my watch, I will not tolerate transgressions of this nature.
I have appointed Assistant City Administrator Elizabeth (“Betsy”) Lake to serve as Acting City Administrator, and the City Council has been informed. Ms. Lake has worked in the City Administration for over eight years and is an experienced attorney with over 30 years of practice.
I want to reassure Oakland residents that government services and operations will not be affected during this time of transition. I was elected to represent the values of the Oakland community and that work and commitment continues.
