This is one of my nicest planes. Vintage Stanley #4 I rebuilt with new tote and knob from scrap maple. I didn't have a thick enough piece for the knob, so I hand cut a sliding dovetail, because I enjoy suffering I guess 🤣
Taking the high spots off my hammer platform. Good excuse to bust out one of my hand planes. This one is a Craftsman #5 I got handed down from my grandfather. I converted it to a jack plane with an aggressively cambered iron and it does great work.

.@MikeWingerii has asked for a mandate from Scripture, not a thin principle that Christians are left to stretch over a whole nation. That's a fair request of anyone claiming that God requires something.
Psalm 2 gives one, addressing rulers directly:
“Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him” (Psa 2:10-12).
This is a command to civil authorities. The Holy Spirit addresses men in their public office and commands them to serve the LORD and kiss His Son.
If magistrates are commanded to serve Christ, then political authority cannot be religiously neutral, and the nation they govern already stands under that command.
The question that remains is how a nation can faithfully obey Christ in its laws, courts, schools, and protection of life in the womb.
That is a conversation worth having carefully and charitably among brothers. It begins under the same warning and resting in the same mercy: "Blessed are all who take refuge in Him."
Nobody is separating them. As far as I understand, they are free to go with him.
Hey @grok
What are 5 reasons for people to unfollow me?
I can tell you one way that we won't solve it, and that's by theoryceling harder about the NAP.
In my freshman chemistry class, the prof had a policy that if you got an A on the final, it would replace your entire grade. She warned us that not one student in 15 years had ever gone into the final with a failing grade and ended with an A.
I overslept and missed the midterm entirely. After that it was mathematically impossible for me to pass except by acing the final, so I stopped doing assignments and showing up to class, and got extra sleep instead. I took home the syllabus notes and crammed out of the textbook at the end of the semester.
Final grade 93%.
Tbh she isn't wrong. Smart white boys are "lazy", because why do more work than necessary, particularly when it's busy-work designed to hold the hands of women and minorities?
Story time.
First-year uni I had a writing workshop. Basic essay writing. I glanced at the table of contents of the writing manual, concluded it was useless, and tossed it under the couch, where it remained for the rest of the year.
The instructor was of course one of those well-meaning, very sensitive white women who believed in things like guided meditation. At the beginning of the year she told us that of course during high school we'd all wait until the last minute to write an essay, no matter how long we had. Well she was going to make that impossible! We were to be required to hand in outlines, thesis statements, drafts! She'd make sure we did the work!
Lol, I thought, that's a dare, challenge accepted.
I made a point of not submitting any of that nonsense, and indeed of not even starting the essay until the day it was due. I'd sit down three hours before class, bang something out, give it a couple quick pass edits, print it off and hand it in.
I basically only showed up to class to hand in essays or pick them up when they were marked. The guided meditation stuff was gay. I didn't even show up for the two quizzes (one of them was literally just the chapter headings from the writing manual I tossed under the couch. I got a 0.)
Lowest grade I got all year was an A-. Once I was sitting next to an Asian girl who was despondent because she'd done everything she was supposed to, handed in all the outlines and rough drafts, attended every class, and still got a C.
At the end of year I got an A. When we were submitting anonymous student feedback, I used the comment box to remind the instructor of the parameters she'd set, and then wrote simply "I won."
The reason smart white boys don't "do the work" isn't because we're lazy. It's because we don't have to.
This is called "motivated reasoning", and is a notoriously poor method for developing true conclusions.

Regarding IQ testing, I am just not convinced that we have controlled for all possible variables [or that we even can].
I *have* seen the data.
OK further clarity on the situation. You are also being a baby. If you're not up for such an event, SAY NO. "We're not able to do anything that big this year. Sorry." Don't use your kid as plausible deniability.

I’m worried if I say no because I don’t want to leave the toddler, she’ll just say “oh well you can just bring him!” or pick a larger, even more expensive AirBNB to allow kids, but even if we could bring him, we don’t want to go lol
No, this is not a reasonable ask, and you are the reasonable one. Your duty is to your family, not to your childless friend who wants to party like an overgrown child.
My friend wants to plan a couples, no-kids weekend getaway, splitting the cost of a large AirBNB, in January for her 30th birthday. I really do not love this idea (husband is mortified), neither to spend the money nor to get someone to take the toddler for 3 days. It would be a 2.5 hour drive away for us, too, so it’s not like we’re close if something happens. I haven’t been away from him for even 1 night yet and he still just seems so young! It would be very hard to leave him for that long.
Am I just a party pooper who needs to get over it? Genuine question. Like I actually need advice here guys
One of my life's greatest ambitions is to build a charcoal fired cogeneration station in my backyard.
