From identifying disease threats to strengthening outbreak preparedness in Rwanda As countries strengthen efforts to prevent diseases that spread between animals and humans, a new study published in BMJ Public Health, involving Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) researchers and 25 experts from different sectors, identified priority zoonotic diseases and key challenges to their prevention and control. These include #rabies, #influenza, #Marburg and #Ebola among viral diseases; #tuberculosis, #brucellosis and #salmonellosis among bacterial diseases; and #toxoplasmosis and #trypanosomiasis among parasitic diseases. The findings highlight the need for stronger collaboration across human, animal and environmental health sectors, integrated disease surveillance and sustainable investment to improve prevention and preparedness. This evidence will inform #Rwanda #OneHealth efforts and support coordinated action against emerging disease threats, aligned with shared #Africa-n and global health priorities.
