FG Has Spends Over ₦1 Trillion On Cancer Control In One Year — Tinubu's Budget Minister Bagudu Tells Nigerians
Tinubu's Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has disclosed that the Federal Government spent over ₦1 trillion on cancer control in the last one year.
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Adeboye, has denied protesting or carrying placards against former Pres. Goodluck Jonathan.
However, while denying that he participated in a protest against Jonathan, Adeboye acknowledged that he once carried placards, explaining that it was at the directive of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) bu what he did not clarify was the govt under which that exercise took place and the circumstances that necessitated CAN's directive.
For the avoidance of doubt, Pastor Adeboye carried placards during the administration of the late Pres. Muhammadu Buhari, and the major concern at the time was the worsening insecurity and the govt's failure to adequately protect lives and property.
Whether Pastor Adeboye chooses to describe that outing as a "prayer walk" or a "protest" does not change its public significance. It was a demonstration of dissatisfaction with the govt's handling of insecurity, and rightly so. Nigerians, including Christian leaders, had every reason to demand accountability from those entrusted with protecting citizens.
But here is the question: Where are Pastor Adeboye and CAN today? Under Tinubu, Nigeria continues to witness disturbing cases of killings, abductions, attacks on communities and the slaughter of innocent citizens. Christians and people of other faiths are not spared. Insecurity remains a major national concern, yet Adeboye and CAN have not demonstrated the same level of public urgency through prayer walks, placards or similar actions against the Tinubu's govt.
Instead Adeboye has defended Tinubu's failure of securing lives and prosperity and also said Nigeria will prosper under him but what's happening today?
This is not consistency but hypocrisy and favouritism towards Tinubu by Adeboye, because Remi Tinubu, Tinubu's wife, is a pastor under Adeboye, who personally ordained her.
