One regiment. One day. More than 500+ dead. Who were the men behind the numbers? I’ve updated the story of the 315e RI with new research, into their ages, ranks and the devastating losses of 25th September 1915, plus the story of it most famous soldier 315eri.substack.com/p/25th-s…

Great episode I’d imagine all Great War stats nerds like me loved it It also gave me some food for thought on potentially researching those who joined the Portsmouth’s Own but for one reason or another ended up in completely unconnected battalions & regiments Thinking cap on

🇸🇪🇺🇸 You may wonder why I am jumping around on the WW1 battlefields and the cemeteries abroad, documenting the Swedes who are buried in those cemeteries, after they fought and fell in the Great War for different nations. For me the answer is easy of course. They deserve to be highlighted, remembered and commemorated. For me it is also a great feeling to hold in my hand, the diary from Jens Carlson who fought in the Machine Gun Company, in the 38th Infantry Regiment, 3rd US Division. It was given to me, to keep as treasure from Jens's grandchild. Reading the text in the diary from July 1918, when he arrived at the small village Condé-en-Brie, east of Chateau Thierry, France. At the same time standing at the village entrance, that is what it's all about. 🙏 Jens survived, went home to the US, but sadly was run over by a car in 1956. The Diary is back at the same location. I don't know about you, but I just say: Wow. I remember you Jens, by doing this. I hope you are well wherever you are. Jens is just one of many, many more. I have more work to do. On my way home from Paris now, will tell you more about my trip later. Until next time, we will remember them.

In the latest @OldFrontLinePod QnA we ask were troops still at risk in reserve trenches? Did Britain have real-life "Saving Private Ryan" stories? Why do some CWGC graves contain multiple burials? And how were breastwork trenches attacked and defended? oldfrontline.co.uk/2026/10/0…

👏👏👏 great episode. From every angle there’s something to experience… below it from the Granatloch it’s imposing; how it is dominated from Mouquet Farm… and then in the distance from the isolation of Munich Trench.. what a feeling.
