France has approved a proposal for a new €0.055 tax per GB of internet traffic, and game downloads could be affected.
If GTA 6 ends up being around 218 GB, downloading it could cost €12 in tax under the proposal.
The tax could also affect other big game downloads and streaming services like Netflix and YouTube.
However, it’s not law yet. The proposal still needs to pass through the remaining legislative process in France.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says it’s “quite terrible” that people have so much DRAM sitting in their own PCs instead of being used in data centers.
“Everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer. And be used 5% of the time,”
He argues that cloud data centers should make better use of limited memory supplies instead of people running AI models locally.
