With open source GenAI software, anyone will be able to create videos or audio of politicians doing or saying pretty much anything, whether it’s a fake robocall from Joe Biden, or a fake image of Donald Trump getting arrested. This will create an immense challenge for democracies. Using cryptography to ensure provenance is an important part of the solution, but it won’t scale alone. We will need blockchains and Chainlink oracles to let anyone publicly commit to what they are asserting to be true. This will also prevent people from changing their story without being held accountable. And then on top of that, we will need identity and reputation systems to create the right incentives. How Can Blockchains Help AI? [Part 1 of 9] AI and blockchains are the two most transformative technologies of our times, and I'm lucky to have a unique perspective on both. Before becoming CPO at @ChainlinkLabs, I led #TensorFlow at @Google (the world's largest AI platform with 3M developers), and @Meta ‘s first AI assistant, M, which we scaled to 200M users. Now I work on #Chainlink, the decentralized computing platform powering 90%+ of DeFi. So naturally, I think a lot about how these two technologies will intersect. AI gives us intelligence at scale. Blockchains give us coordination, incentive systems and programmable value, also at scale. It's the first time in history that we can fully automate intelligence and money. We can now envision autonomous superintelligent agents manipulating billions of dollars. There's really no limit to what can happen when you combine those two technologies. It's gonna be wild. Blockchains already use AI. When we launched Chainlink Functions, which lets smart contracts (programs running on a blockchain) call into Web2 APIs, we saw how this will be applied to connect blockchains to AI systems. For example, trading will be revolutionized by smart contracts tapping into the best AI-powered price prediction APIs, driving superior returns. Gaming will be deeply impacted as well—given how AI is beating humans at pretty much any game (chess, go, poker, diplomacy, Starcraft), any game with money to be made will be dominated by smart contracts calling into AI models that will return the best strategy. There are many other fascinating ways that blockchains will use AI, such as automating smart contract generation and auditing; the purpose of this post is to explore the reverse, i.e. how blockchains can help AI.
