I used to think oldheads who said they threw 85 mph in HS threw puss(slow). Now that we know Uncle Dave who “only threw 85 mph” would be clocked at 93-94 mph today. Kinda puts things in perspective. And 92 mph in 2005, is now 96-97. So if you throw 95 now, 20 yrs ago you’d barely be breaking 90.🤯

Are we developing baseball players or showcase athletes? Exit velocity, throwing velocity, 60 times. All important. But when did testing well become more important than playing well? Measurables get you noticed. Baseball skills keep you on the field.

There’s ZERO reason for travel ball at 8, 9, or 10. Play Little League, develop, and have fun. If I could do it again, I wouldn’t recommend travel ball that young. I’ve seen too many kids burned out by high school. Agree or disagree, that’s my take.

Funny how everyone wants credit when a kid commits to college. Some travel programs & showcase companies never made a call, sent an email, or even a text to help, yet act like they made it happen. How do I know? I’ve helped hundreds of kids get to college. Seen it firsthand.

What happens after freshman year? We tracked PBR's top 30 recruits in 36 states from the 2024 class. 668 enrolled at their D1 commit school. One season later, 232 of them were no longer on that roster. That's 1 in 3. glynnbaseballadvisory.com/du…

Chasing velocity started in MLB, moved to college baseball, then trickled down to high school and youth baseball. I firmly believe chasing velo and improper plyo ball use at young ages have contributed to the rise in Tommy John injuries. Disagree all you want. I stand by it.

A HS parent asked me to recommend CT travel baseball programs that understand college recruiting and can help their son reach the next level. In a small state flooded with travel teams, I could honestly recommend only FOUR programs. Plenty of teams collecting checks, though.

Unpopular opinion: Too many players have no clue what level they can play at. Parents don’t know. Most Travel coaches don’t know. Kids are spending money on showcases at schools where they have ZERO chance of ever playing. Someone needs to start being honest with these kids.

This is what happens to the great game of baseball when you put pocket protector nerds who never wore a jock in charge of how the teams play the game! Just punch in number, analytics and data into a computer, and nevermind the human element…
