Photographed in colour 111 years ago, this young lady is Mademoiselle Paquin, a young student at the domestic school in Nancy, France, during the Great War. I have cleaned-up this charming Autochrome portrait which was taken in May 1915 by Auguste Leon - and you would be correct in supposing that she was a classmate of the girl whose portrait I posted yesterday. This photo was taken in colour using an early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.

I understand not listening to the Beatles (maybe you don’t care to explore their albums) or preferring other artists. But if you disregard their influence on most music we listen to today or call them overrated, I genuinely will assume you know fuck all.

This very immediate gaze peers out at us from 111 years ago. Photographed in colour in May 1915, this young lady is Miss Rose Chapuy, a pupil at a Domestic School in Nancy, France (and looking very much like the Swedish activist Greta Thunberg!). I have cleaned up this wonderful Autochrome portrait by Auguste Leon, which was taken using an early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.

We say goodbye to a lot of things in our lives, but today was particularly hard - my favourite pair of socks have finally carked it.

For those of you taken by the Autochrome post yesterday, of the model Sarah Liévine looking like wild-child in 1907, you may be fascinated to see this alternative Autochrome of her, taken the same year by the same photographer André Hachette, showing a more demure side to her character. This portrait was taken in colour 119 years ago using an early colour glass-plate process. It isn't colourised.

Photographed in colour 112 years ago, I've cleaned-up this remarkable autochrome of Henri Lumiere, which was taken during the Great War by his father Auguste. It is such a casual, contemporary-looking photo I think it helps challenge our preconceptions of history. It was taken in colour in 1914 and isn't colourised.

A really beautifully lit Autochrome from 1910, entitled "Female Nude Leaning on Her Elbow", which capitalises on the Autochrome's great strength at capturing red light. I have cleaned and enhanced this stunning image by French photographer Gustave Gain, which utilises an early colour glass-plate process to capture genuine colour from 116 years ago. It is not colourised.

'The Shining' is such a stupid name for a movie. It doesn't even give you an idea of what its about. I would've called it 'The Naughty Hotel'

At the end of a long week, this is just how I'm feeling - in need of recharging my batteries! I've cleaned-up this wonderful Autochrome glass-plate portrait, photographed in colour 106 years ago by Jules Gervais-Courtellemont. It's an incredibly modern-looking portrait, which speaks of the human condition, connecting us across the centuries. It was photographed using an early colour glass-plate process - it isn't colourised.

Photographed in colour 104 years ago, this is Dana Desboro Glover, the second wife of the famed photographer Edward Steichen. It was Steichen himself who took this portrait in 1922 - the year before their marriage - depicting his fiancé like Eve proffering tempation's apple... It was taken using an early two-color separation process and isn't colourised.

Howard Webb continually references acknowledgement of - not even apologies for - officiating errors as though we should be grateful for the admission. No, it’s the bare minimum. “We felt it was important that we acknowledged an error in this situation.” Did you? Why, thank you, that’s so kind. The repetitive “we want to ensure that we are transparent and open” line is also nonsense. Individuals get briefly taken off duty for mistakes, but there‘s no accountability when it comes to the organisation itself and Webb. Systemic problems with how officials are trained and the lack of alignment gets ignored, along with the long-reported culture of fear and intimidation. The real acknowledgement should be clearly and obviously fixing these overarching issues.

Photographed in colour 119 years ago, I have cleaned this rare and remarkable Autochrome portrait of the great French actress Sarah Bernhardt, recreating her role of Cleopatra. She first appeared as the Egyptian queen in 1890, riviving and touring with the play for many years. This recreation shows her in 1907 at the age of 62. It was taken using an early colour glass-plate process and isn't colourised.

Today I transport you back 116 years to pre-WWI France. This beautiful colour photograph was taken in 1910 by the French art collector & photographer Antonin Personnaz, using an early colour glass-plate process. The keen-eyed amongst you will recognise the road from an Autochrome I cleaned-up for you in July (I'll add a link in the comments).
