💀 HALLOWEEN: WHEN THE DEAD WALKED AMONG US 🎃 Long before Halloween became about costumes, sweets and plastic skeletons, it was associated with something far more unsettling. Over 2,000 years ago, the ancient Celts celebrated Samhain, marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. According to ancient beliefs, this was a time when the boundary between the living and the dead grew thin. The spirits of the dead could return. People lit fires, left offerings and, according to later traditions, wore disguises to protect themselves from wandering spirits. And those cheerful carved pumpkins? They originated from a much creepier tradition of carving frightening faces into turnips. In Irish folklore, the wandering spirit of Stingy Jack was condemned to roam the darkness with only a burning ember inside a hollowed-out turnip. No sweets. No costumes from Kmart. Just darkness, death and the fear of what might be waiting outside. Tonight, when someone knocks at your door, remember something... The tradition comes from a time when people genuinely feared that not everything wandering the streets was alive. 🎃 Happy Halloween.
