My understanding is that Israeli engineers contributed significantly to the design of two specific Apple-designed connectivity chips:
C1X cellular modem
N1 wireless chip (Wi-Fi 7 / Bluetooth)
Having backdoors built into those chips would save on having to deploy Pegasus or other spyware.
