10 months ago, I started Oortbound with a simple idea: a space-themed crowdrunner roguelite. Two months in, I hit a wall. I couldn't find a way to make co-op work in a crowdrunner, so I reworked the core gameplay into an open world with 6DOF movement, while keeping key elements from the original, like fleet units, gates, and boss battles. 6DOF movement took a while to figure out, but I eventually nailed it. Then came the centerpiece of Oortbound: the black hole. That alone took countless iterations to get right. Flying around a live black hole, and even diving into it, is something I'd never seen done before, and I wanted it to set a new paradigm for gaming, especially space games. It turned out beautifully, even better than I expected. I've poured endless hours into Oortbound, working part-time jobs on the side to fund development, including buying Synty and Aeon assets. And tomorrow, I'm finally launching the demo! The job's not done yet, though. Now it's time to start marketing properly, something I have zero experience with, and to work on the feedback I'm hoping to get from the demo. If all goes well, I'll then start on the PvP game mode, which I'm even more excited about. Can't wait to spill the beans on that soon. If you've made it this far, thank you.
