It's possible we'll pay for the Twitter API, but there are no details on costs or how the APIs will change, both technically and legally.

The Science Twitter graph archive project has one week to live as Twitter's API is being shut off on February 9th. Archive while you still can: opencheck.is/scitwitter.
While the Twitter API is non-functional for most 3rd-party clients, the Twitter API is still working for OpenCheck, for now.

Also, coming soon:
A novel way to find new follows with special support for Mastodon.
Bi-directional sync with Wikidata for people we believe can pass the notability test.
✅ The browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox have launched. See opencheck.is/tools
✅ If you link to your OpenCheck public URL from your Mastodon profile, it'll show up as a verified bi-directional link, thanks to Mastodon's support for rel="me"
✅ Peer-to-peer identity verifications is in prototype phase. It uses Wikidata+accounts created on OpenCheck. Check it out using opencheck.is homepage or using the browser extension.
✅ The directory now pulls Fediverse/Mastodon profiles. Over 600 people have listed in the directory.
If you tried to register but you never got the verification email, I now have a simple solution for you: Just try to log in with that email. If you had a pending registration it will simply send you the verification email. Also, a few new features now and coming soon:
Identical source as the Firefox extension (except V3 manifest rather than V2). It also works as a Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey user script as well, if you prefer.
The OpenCheck Chrome extension is now released as well: chrome.google.com/webstore/d….
A prototype of the Firefox extension for OpenCheck's new community-based identity verification system is now available: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir…. Chrome and other browsers coming soon. See video for how it works:
Finally, note that on Mastodon a browser extension isn't necessary to validate identity, thanks to Mastodon's openness -- you can link to your OpenCheck public URL and because it links back with rel="me" it will turn green.
It requests the minimum set of permissions necessary. If you want to check identities but don't want to install the extension, just go to opencheck.is
The browser extension is open source: github.com/OpenCheckNetwork/…
A prototype of the Firefox extension for OpenCheck's new community-based identity verification system is now available: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir…. Chrome and other browsers coming soon. See video for how it works:
Voting is available from the account page of ORCID-authenticated accounts with verified publication histories. This will expand as the web-of-trust grows.
More about the motivation, principles, and draft design of this project is here: opencheck.is/about
The system is bootstrapped off existing ORCID-authenticated accounts with verified publication histories along with Wikidata. A web-of-trust is being formed with a voting (now available) that currently looks like this:
A prototype of community-based identity verification is now live. Tools to check Twitter identities are available now (opencheck.is and browser bookmarklet) with browser extensions and user scripts coming soon.
