यदि तुम यह मान रहे हो कि फिल्म में मूल घटनाओं को (रावण के चरित्र की व्हाइटवाशिंग, शूर्पणखा के साथ लक्ष्मण द्वारा किया गया अन्याय, राम-सीता-रावण का नारीवाद, सीताहरण का लोप) वामपंथी डिस्टॉर्शन के साथ दिखाया गया है, फिर भी तुम्हें फिल्म अच्छी लग रही है, तो स्वयं को रामभक्त मत कहो।
तुम यदि कह रहे हो कि गीत-संगीत बेकार है, थोड़ा सा रावण को ऐसे नहीं दिखाते तो फिल्म अच्छी बन जाती, पर फिर भी देखना चाहिए, तो आप स्वयं को रामभक्त न कहें।
यदि आपको लगता है कि आपके राम-लक्ष्मण इस विकृत रूप में, और रावण इस सुसंस्कृत रूप में, ‘भारत के कल्चर के प्रतिनिधि’ बना कर विदेश में मार्केट किए जाने चाहिए, तो आप स्वयं को रामभक्त न कहें।
‘इफ और बट’ भी कहना है और कल्चर का रिप्रेजेंटेशन भी, तो भाई मुझे यह नहीं पचता। निस्संदेह ‘आदिपुरुष’ से अच्छी है, सेट्स ग्रैंड हैं, पर यह रामायण नहीं है। और जब मैं रामायण बोल रहा हूँ तो वह वाल्मीकि या तुलसी की नहीं, बल्कि एक सर्वस्वीकार्य वर्शन है जिसमें राम स्थापित हैं मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम के रूप, रावण इविल पर्सोनिफाइड है।
अतः, मैं ‘यहाँ थोड़ा ऐसा कर दिया है, पर’, ‘वहाँ यदि ऐसा नहीं करते तो’ में विश्वास नहीं करता। रामायण की कथा लिखी हुई है, लोग वही रामलीला हर वर्ष देखते हैं, वही रामायण टीवी पर कहीं न कहीं सदैव आता रहता है, फिर आपको फिल्म में ये ‘लिबर्टी’ की विष्ठा क्यों करना है?
