Syngenta/ChemChina’s atrazine is banned in more than 60 countries, but it is the second most widely used herbicide in the United States, and the number-one most commonly detected pesticide in tap water. Atrazine contaminates one-fifth of the surface water we draw from for drinking water.

🍅 In this week's Organic Bytes Newsletter orgcns.org/4jFVg2f , we make the case for banning Atrazine. It is the pesticide most often found in American tap water, and it has been banned in Europe for years.
We look at why natural fabrics feel so good, who pays the real price for cheap food, what Indigenous land stewardship can teach us, and why we’re skeptical of Big Food’s new precision fermentation and synbio protein patents.
We hope you’ll read this week’s Organic Bytes Newsletter all the way through, down to the Little Bytes, where you’ll find more good reads and videos.
We also hope you’ll join us at the People’s Food Summit, where farmers, scientists, and organizers are building an organic regenerative future. It’s Free and virtual. October 16, 2026.

Perfecta 3D-printed meats rely heavily on soy flour and soy protein. In the US, the vast majority of soy is #GMO.
In the US, 3D-printed steaks and chicken breasts have gone on sale
Under the Perfecta brand, plant-based patties with the taste of salmon and white fish have also been released. 3D printing is used to imitate the fibers and “marbling” of real meat.
Sales have started in stores in the northeastern United States.
A loophole buried in the Farm Bill would let new GMOs and engineered microbes dodge pesticide safety review entirely, and it’s still in the bill right now.
The provision creates new federal definitions for “plant biostimulants” and “plant-incorporated protectants.” That second term is EPA’s own name for GMOs engineered to produce their own pesticides. Some biostimulants are low-risk, but the definition is loose enough to let gene-silencing RNAi sprays and genetically engineered microbes hide under that label. RNAi sprays silence genes with no guarantee the silencing stops at the intended pest, and engineered microbes, once released, can reproduce and spread on their own with no way to call them back.
Congress has stripped related provisions before, and can do it again. The House passed its bill in April. The Senate Agriculture Committee advanced its version in September, but the full Senate hasn’t voted, so the two chambers still have to reconcile their bills, likely after the November elections.
Whatever survives that negotiation becomes law, and with the 2018 Farm Bill now expired, this is a good time to call.
Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for the staffer who handles agriculture policy, or use the form on this page to email your Representatives and Senators.
Tell them: strip the biostimulant and plant-incorporated protectant loophole from the final Farm Bill, and keep gene-silencing GMOs and engineered microbes subject to real pesticide safety review.
TAKE ACTION: Tell Congress to Close the GMO Pesticide Loophole in the Farm Bill!
