August 15th, Dormition of the Theotokos:
In giving birth, you preserved your virginity, and in falling asleep you did not forsake the world, O Theotokos. You passed into life as the Mother of Life, and by your prayers, you deliver our souls from death.
It amazes me that people actually tithe 10% of their paycheck to this dweeb.
Like there are actually 100+ people who go to this guy’s “church” to listen to him spewing this trash every Sunday.
Congratulations Spineless Shelly, you’ve just made me even more Orthodox.
Tell me Diet Steven Anderson and his fellow NIFB goons are incredibly insecure people without telling me.
They can’t handle any type of affection between two men without foaming at the mouth and shouting “DURRRRRRR GAY!!!!”
Stevie Anderson's NIFB goons denying the incarnation to "own the Caths"... a bold move.
Jesus is a real physical human being. People actually saw Him.
He was not a vampire. He has a reflection and if you had a camera 2000 years ago, you could have snapped a picture of Him.
“O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk.
But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant.
Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother,
This just in, if you are Orthodox you have to actually believe what the Church teaches, its not up for debate, and the Church is not a theological free for all.
Shocking I know. We Orthodox are such big meanies heads!
The final words of the 7th Session of Nicea II, 787:
The holy council exclaimed: ‘We all believe accordingly, we all hold the same, we have all signed in accord. This is the faith of the apostles, this is the faith of the fathers, this is the faith of the orthodox, this is the faith that has sustained the world. Believing in one God, to be praised in trinity, we kiss the honourable images. May those who do not hold accordingly be anathema! May those who do not believe accordingly be driven far away from the church! We follow the ancient legislation of the catholic church, we observe the decrees of the fathers. We anathematize those who either add anything or remove anything from the church. We anathematize the intrusive innovation of the accusers of Christians. We accept the sacred
images. We subject those who do not believe accordingly to anathema. To those who apply to the sacred images the sayings in divine scripture against
idols anathema! To those who do not kiss the holy and venerable images anathema! To those who call the sacred images idols anathema! To those who say that Christians had recourse to the images as gods anathema! To those who knowingly communicate with those who insult and dishonour the sacred images anathema! To those who say it was someone other than Christ our God who rescued us from idols anathema! To those who dare to say that the catholic church ever accepted idols anathema!
‘Many years to the emperors! To Constantine and his mother Eirene many years! To the victorious emperors many years! To the new Constantine and the new Helena eternal memory! May God protect their authority! Heavenly king, protect the kings on earth!
‘To all the heretics anathema! To the assembly that insulted the sacred images anathema! To whoever accept the impious mouthings of their heresy anathema!....They scorned the images of the Lord and his saints, and the Lord has scorned them. If anyone defends anyone who belongs to this heresy that accuses Christians or who has ended his life in it, anathema!...If anyone does not accept the gospel narratives when painted, anathema! If anyone does not kiss them as being in the name of the Lord and his saints, anathema! If anyone rejects any ecclesiastical tradition written or unwritten, anathema!
I had to provide these words today. My opponent, who believes them, did not. Today's debate was about the gospel, and Craig admitted it. Everyone in that audience, and any audience in the future who watches it, must have the maturity to recognize what is at stake. Nicea II added icon veneration (προσκύνησις) to the gospel. The Apostles never taught such a thing, and all the references to symbols, chalices, signet rings, and grave markings, from earlier centuries, does not add it to the gospel either. So when you boil it all down, Mr. Truglia defended the anathematization of entire swaths of professing Christians not over the doctrine of God, or a denial of the resurrection, or a perversion of the gospel, but, because we do not do what Irene, Empress of the Byzantine Empire, demanded we do 1200+ years ago.
How about both?
The entire first half of the Orthodox liturgy is called the “Liturgy of the Word”. That’s a good hour devoted just to scripture reading and singing the psalms. That’s not even counting Matins and the Hours, where even more scripture is read.
Both the Catholic Mass and the Orthodox Divine Liturgy are split into two parts:
The Liturgy of the Word- where scripture is read and psalms are sung.
The Liturgy of the Faithful- where the faithful partake of the Eucharist.
Scripture and Liturgy aren’t mutually exclusive.
I’m celebrating “reformation” month by thoroughly ignoring the tenants of the so-called “reformation”. As is the Orthodox tradition. youtu.be/N3kt2MUDHM8?is=yFB7…
Funny how my first grade Sunday School class understands what the terms “Theotokos” and “Mother of God” mean but an adult man with “online degrees” can’t grasp it 🤷♂️
You can say, Mary is not the mother of God and still believe Jesus has two natures, fully human and fully gone.
What you cannot say if you’re a Trinitarian is that Mary is the mother of God because she is not the mother of the father or the Holy Spirit so the only way that she could be the mother of God is if you divide the Trinity
So wait, is Orthodoxy an irrelevant minority or a threat lol? What happened to us being “dangerous”?
If Orthodoxy isn’t a threat (to your church’s collection plate) and isn’t significantly growing, why even make these silly hit pieces about us? Seems like a waste of time 🤷♂️

1: EO Evangelism Is Primarily Online
By this, I did NOT mean that there are no organic/normal converts to EO (I know a few).
I simply wanted to point out that the influence of EO is dramatically overblown online. In reality, it is a minority of a minority in America.

“Soul crushing religion” says the Calvinist 🤪 We all know Calvinists are super well known for being a cheerful bunch.
Eastern Orthodoxy is a Soul-Crushing Religion.

These people are so desperate to keep people in their pews that they’re willing to shamelessly lie to their audience. The lies are dumb, half hearted lies too.
It would be funny if it wasn’t just so sad and pathetic.
Eastern Orthodoxy Has a “Half Savior”.

I wonder if they talk about the “dangers” to their collection plate that “Eastern” Orthodoxy poses on this episode, that’s what they’re mainly worried about I’m sure. More evangelical young men converting to Orthodoxy = less tithes 🤷♂️
NEW EPISODE: Today on the Sword & The Trowel, @tomascol and @gundengraham talk with @jacobtrotter41, Assistant Professor of Historical Theology at @FoundersSem. They discuss the issue of Eastern Orthodoxy, its weaknesses and failures, and the danger of its growing influence with evangelical young men.
Dropping today at 4:00pm ET on the Founders App and wherever you get your podcasts.
