St. Justin Popovic, Baptism Must Be Done With Three Full Immersions Dogmatics of the Orthodox Church Vol IV, Part 1, Chapter 3 “Baptism is a holy sacrament in which a person, through threefold immersion in water in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, is cleansed from all sins, dies to sin and a sinful life, and is born again into a spiritual, holy life - to assimilate himself to Christ and become a saint. By Baptism, a human being is implanted into the Theanthropic Body of the Church, and a person becomes a Christian, a participant in this Body ( Eph. 3:6 )… “In the sacred rite of the sacrament of Baptism, the most important thing is the threefold immersion of the person being baptized in water; at the same time, the priest pronounces the words: ‘The servant of God is baptized (the name determined by the recipient is called) in the name of the Father - amen, and the Son - amen, and the Holy Spirit - amen.’ This immersion signifies the burial of the old and the resurrection of the new man, signifying the death and Resurrection of the Savior (see Rom. 6:3–23 )… “Bishops and priests have the right to perform the holy sacrament of Baptism as successors of the holy Apostles. In extreme need [that is, under the threat of death and the danger of dying unbaptized. – Note. ed. ] Baptism can be performed by deacons and even laymen. In this case, the person being baptized is immersed in water three times, while the words are pronounced: ‘The servant of God (name) is baptized in the name of the Father - amen, and the Son - amen, and the Holy Spirit - amen.’ If the person baptized in this way remains to live, then the priest supplements the Baptism by performing the entire ritual of Baptism, except for the threefold immersion.” azbyka.ru/otechnik/Iustin_Po…

Sadly, we have been informed that the number of martyrs from the terrorist attack on St George’s Church in Jordan has risen from 7 to 9. We pray for our brothers who have borne witness to Christ through their martyrdom, as well as for the swift recovery of the injured.

BLIND OBEDIENCE IS UNORTHODOX Orthodox Christians are called to submit to the Church's ruling hierarchs. Yet, there have been many instances throughout history where the faithful have been challenged with delicate situations in which they've felt morally obligated to oppose their bishops during times of difficulty and confusion. The question is: given that our loyalty is ultimately to Christ, how do we know where to draw the line between faithful obedience and lawful defiance? (⛓️‍💥LINK BELOW👇)

It is all about the incarnation and indeed it is ultimately always about Christ and the incarnation and its continuation in the Church. The reasons why Protestants and co. don’t get this is that they are alienated from the life of the Body, the living experience which brings forth orthodox ecclesiology.
The Old Testament gives an actual *reason* for why the Israelites cannot create images of God. Deut 4:15–18: “And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no form; you only heard a voice […] You saw no form of any kind the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully, so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape…” Israel could not, objectively speaking, create an “image of God” because He had not yet revealed His form—they only heard his voice, which they were called to follow, seeing only His “back” like Moses. This is why icon veneration has salvific stakes. To reject iconography is to deny that Christ is the form of God revealed to us.

"Those who are under an error in one point of the Catholic religion, lose the whole faith, and all the value of the faith. ...For the scheme of the mysteries of the Church and the Catholic faith is such that one who denies one portion of the Sacred Mystery cannot confess the other. For all parts of it are so bound up and united together that one cannot stand without the other and if a man denies one point out of the whole number, it is of no use for him to believe all the others." St. John Cassian On the Incarnation of the Lord Against Nestorius Book VI, Chapter XVII

14th Century Canonist, Hieromonk Matthew (Blastares) of Thessaloniki, That Those Not Baptized in Three Full Immersions Must be Re-baptized. In short, the divine canons command that all those baptized by single immersion from the heterodox who come to the [Orthodox] Catholic Church be rebaptized... The 50th (Rule of the Holy Apostles) commands that three baptisms of a single sacrament be performed, i.e., three immersions in a single baptism, and that at each immersion, one name of the Holy Trinity be pronounced, and not one baptism given into the death of the Lord, i.e., that the person being baptized be immersed once and with a single immersion proclaim the death of the Lord, as proposed by the frenzied heresy of the Eunomians, which is also mentioned in the 7th Canon of the Second Council… the three immersions signify His three-day burial and resurrection. azbyka.ru/otechnik/Matfej_Vl… azbyka.ru/otechnik/Matfej_Vl…

Par excellence a bishop, and a priest, must follow the Holy Fathers in everything, especially in discernment in applying oikonomia. There is no "magic wand" in the clergy's hand. There is not "free for all" or liberty to apply willy-nilly the economy of salvation with regard to reception. There are presuppositions that must be met, both that there is a genuine NEED and there was the genuine form, the three-fold immersion, done to begin with. When someone stands before the priest begging for baptism there is no need for oikonomia. When 98% of all converts are coming from confessions which have abandoned the apostolic form of baptism (it is "invalid" as to form), there is no basis for oikonomia.
There are an enormous list of saints and synods that attest to the fact that those who are heterodox are received into the Church through chrismation. Furthermore, you are aware of the practice followed by the majority of canonical churches throughout the centuries.

Many of the errors in the @treydonlunot video were addressed long ago, as they are the primary arguments of Fr. Lawrence Farley's "Receiving Converts into the Church." @OrthodoxEthos addressed these in 2024, here: orthodoxethos.com/post/a-res…
My comment below the @treydonlunot video: "Unfortunately, this video is riddled with errors and inconsistencies. The main thesis that the Church’s historical use of oikonomia proves recognition of grace-filled sacraments outside the canonical boundaries depends on one repeated inference the canons and the patristic witness all reject, that non-repetition of the Holy Mystery equals a prior "validity." The major inconsistencies follow from this and from the selective method of the video. The video names On the Reception of the Heterodox as representing the “rigorist” position but mostly ignores the book. The Arche-Athanatos article to which the book was written as a direct reply is doing most of the heavy lifting. In the video you claim that Eunomians lacked real baptism because they were Trinitarian heretics, cite St. John Damascene and St. Nikodemos on the necessity of correct Trinitarian faith, and then concede that the Orthodox Church regards the filioque as a Trinitarian heresy. I see in another comment here that you further claim that a term can be “interpreted in an Orthodox way”, but this in no way resolves a dogmatically held heresy. You are presenting St. Basil selectively here (and not mentioning Canon 47 at all) despite these canons being received by an Oecumenical Council. Overall this is a rehashing of the Florovsky essay, but not a substantial contribution to the conversations held since then."

Icon of St. Auxentios of Mt. Katirli, the ascetic and spiritual father of Patriarch Cyril V of Constantinople. The holiness of his life and his many spiritual gifts inspired a multitude of pilgrims to seek his blessing and healing prayers. He supported and blessed the 1755 Decree of the Three Patriarchs—Cyril V of Constantinople, Matthew of Alexandria, and Parthenios of Jerusalem. That decree declared: "We deem the baptisms of heretics worthy of rejection and abhorrence as being disconsonant with and alien to the Divine Apostolic edict and as ineffectual waters, as the Divine Ambrose and St. Athanasios the Great say, since they provide no sanctification to those who receive them, nor are they of any avail to the cleansing of sins. We receive as unbaptized those who come over to the Orthodox Faith, who were baptized without being baptized, and without any hazard we baptize them in accordance with the Apostolic and Synodal Canons, upon which Christ’s Holy, Apostolic, and Catholic Church, the common Mother of us all, firmly rests."

The REAL History of Iconographic Tradition Does an objective assessment of history show that the standards held at the Iconoclast Council represent a position which prove Protestantism, or do they ultimately work against it? Fr. John Whiteford joins Fr. Peter Heers in exploring some of the attestations from saints found earlier in history to determine whether or not the practice of icon veneration was already present.
