Our local beach on the webcam just now. Flat calm sea because it faces south and is sheltered by the land from the north westerly winds. But the surfing coast is taking a battering! @loebeach @stormausten @Cornwall

⚠️ There are a number of reported problems on Cornwall's roads due to Storm Austen. The A30 eastbound between Camborne Tolvaddon and Redruth Avers is closed after a van reportedly overturned, with traffic being diverted through Barnoose and long delays building.

I am not Jewish. But I am a proud Israeli citizen. I live in Tel Aviv. Despite the world having extremely opinionated views about the country I live in, few people I have come across on X (that don’t live here) know little of substance about Israel apart from their warped sense of history and reality. This is the first post of a series I will write entitled Everything You Think You Know About Israel is (Probably) Wrong. The points are not in any particular order. Spread the word. Most Israelis (just over 50%) are not white. The devastating impact on European Jews of the Holocaust meant that the newly formed Israel in 1948 was largely populated by Jews fleeing persecution in Muslim-ruled countries predominantly in the Middle East and North Africa. These are known as Mizrahi Jews and when the State of Israel was formed they made up 80% of the Jewish population living here. Jews have had a continuous presence in the land of Israel since around 1208 BCE, that’s 3,200 years — long before the creation of the state of Israel in 1948. The Muslim faith, in contrast, dates back 1,400 years (610 CE). Yes, when they lost majority rule in the 7th-century Muslim conquest they were not in the majority for centuries, but still lived in their ancestral homeland. Arab terrorism against Jews existed before 1948. In 1929, for example, 67 Jews were killed in the Hebron massacre, attacked and slaughtered by the Arabs they lived and worked beside. My wife’s great-grandfather Ben-Zion Gershon (who was a local doctor that often treated the Arab community without accepting payment) was tortured, had both his eyes gouged out and was then murdered. This was after his daughter Esther was raped in front of him, and his wife Zahava had both arms chopped off and was left to die. This was just one of many similar massacres inflicted on Jews that day. I will continue this series over the coming days.

You know what? Many people in the western world celebrated this on October 7th 2023, while they waved the flag of H@mas - exactly three years ago today. Never forget. Am Yisrael Chai.🇮🇱

From the River to the Sea. Translated. It's chanted on campuses and in the streets of Western cities as if it were a message of peace. Most of the people chanting it have never bothered to find out what it means. The river is the Jordan. The sea is the Mediterranean. Between the two lies Israel. All of Israel. A Palestine from the river to the sea is a Palestine without Israel and without Israelis. Take it from Hamas itself. In its 2017 political document, it rejects any alternative to the full liberation of Palestine "from the river to the sea." Translated from terrorist: Israel has to go. October 7 showed us what that looks like in practice. I can understand the Islamists who hate Jews and Israel chanting it. They mean it. They've never hidden it. But imagine how dumb you have to be as a Western citizen to buy into that premise. You live in a society with free speech, women's rights, pride parades and the rule of law. And then you march shoulder to shoulder with people who would imprison you, or worse, for exactly those things. "Useful idiot" didn't come out of nowhere. It exists because that's exactly what you are. Hamas thanks you for your service. The rest of us despise you.

A Statement of Conscience on October 7 I will not start by saying ‘as a Muslim’ or ‘as an imam’, but as a human being. On October 7, over 1,200 innocent people were killed in a single day. Families were shot in their homes. Young people out dancing were hunted across open fields. Over 250 people, including children and the elderly, were dragged into Gaza as hostages. I think of a mother hiding in a safe room with her baby’s mouth covered. I think of a father listening as the line went quiet. I think of families who waited month after month for someone to come home, only to receive a coffin. I didn’t need my faith to recognize the evil of what happened. My heart told me first. But I’m a Muslim and an imam, and I owe the world one honest sentence: what was done that day was a crime against God. God teaches that whoever kills one innocent soul, it is as if he had killed all humanity. This day has an author: Yahya Sinwar. He planned it, ordered it, and knew what would follow. Every death of that day and war he started rests on him and Hamas leaders who sat in tunnels and foreign hotels and called slaughter a victory. It rests on every Palestinian leader who cheered, excused, handed out sweets, or said nothing. They chose this. They own it. But Sinwar did not invent himself. He was the fruit of a tree planted almost a century ago by the Muslim Brotherhood. Hamas named itself in its founding charter as the Brotherhood’s branch in Palestine. The Brotherhood’s poison is slow. It arrives through study circles, youth camps, charity boxes, and kind words to lonely young men. Drop by drop, it teaches him that his religion is a political party, his neighbour is his enemy, the Jew is the cause of his sorrow, and God is pleased by rage. By the time the gun arrives, the soul is already taken. I have seen this poison in mosques where sermons became rallies and young men could recite slogans but not sit still for a verse on mercy. Every people that let the Brotherhood in has paid in blood and ruined generations. It has never built anything it did not first set on fire. Behind Hamas stands another hand: the IRGC. It was the IRGC’s money, weapons, and training that turned a hateful idea into an army. One calls itself Sunni and the other Shia, and they may curse each other’s creeds, but they are united in what they worship. It is not God. It is power. The same IRGC that armed the killers of October 7 shoots Iranian girls for showing their hair, hangs young men for asking to be free, and has left graves from Tehran to Damascus to Beirut. They speak in God’s name. So did Pharaoh speak in the name of heaven. So let me say this clearly. Hamas and the IRGC are not merely enemies of Islam. That would be too small a charge, as if their crime were only against us. They are enemies of God. God is the Giver of life, yet they deal in death. God calls Himself the Most Merciful, yet they have made cruelty a sacrament. God honoured the children of Adam, yet they look at a child and see a target or a shield. To murder what God created and sign His name to it is the oldest blasphemy. And we Muslims have been too quiet. Some of us were afraid. Some told ourselves it was not our business. Some, God forgive them, felt something other than horror that morning and never confessed it. Silence was the soil this poison grew in. I will not add to it. So on this anniversary, let us say plainly what our scripture already says. The Jews are not our enemies. They are our cousins in Abraham, and their dead were created by the same God who created us. Today belongs to them: the murdered, the hostages, and families who still set a place at the table. To them I say: I am sorry for what was done to you by men who used the words of my prayers. You’re not alone in your grief or remembrance. The enemies of God are those who murder in His name. We know their names. It is time we said them from our own pulpits, in our own voices, before they speak for us again. Imam Tawhidi

If you give a £50 note to a butcher, who then buys from the baker, who then buys from the candlestick maker, it’s worth £50 to each of them, & after 50 transactions it’s still worth £50 If you pay by card, the bank takes 1.5%, 3% or even 5% The butcher, baker and candlestick maker all have to pay the bank for the privilege of transacting, and by 50 transactions… The bank has the whole £50 in fees This is the real reason they want a cashless society Cash is freedom, but it’s also trillions the banks can NOT take from you

A wild crow figured out how to open a faucet on its own, drank until it had enough, let the water cool its feathers in the heat... and then calmly shut it back off before flying away. No training. No treats. Just a bird that was paying attention. Nature doesn't need an audience to be smart.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This video appears AI-generated. Viewers note inconsistencies like the faucet handle turned the same direction to open/close and water flow not matching the crow's closing action, unlike real documented crow faucet use. x.com/scruffy65/stat… indiatoday.in/trending-news/… life.illinois.edu/hanks/pdfs/Han…

Martyna Ogonowska has lost her appeal. This is atrocious. Martyna was just 18 when she was sexually assaulted by a man named Filip Jaskiewicz. A rape survivor, she was carrying a knife, and she stabbed Jaskiewicz once, killing him. At her trial, the judge accepted that Martyna had been violently and sexually assaulted, but because she was carrying a knife, her actions were considered unlawful, and she was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Worse, she’s still behind bars, while Banaras Hussein, leader of the Rotherham rape gang, is already free on licence. This is the UK in 2026: a country where a man who doused a little girl in gasoline and threatened to set her on fire spends less time in prison than a woman who killed in admitted self defense.

At Pensacola Beach, Florida, 8-year-old Jessie Arbogast is attacked by a bull shark in shallow water. The shark bites off Jessie’s right arm but Jesse’s uncle, Vance Flosenzier, dives into the surf, grabs the shark by its tail, and drags it ashore. Once there, Flosenzier wrestles Jessie’s arm from its jaws, then holds it steady until a park ranger can shoot it dead. After a 12-hour operation, surgeons manage to re-attach Arbogast’s arm. He is in critical condition, but is expected to make a full recovery.

So what is happening to NS&I? Radio silence. I'm trying to make an investment, need help because it didn't go through. Their help page takes you here, to X! I've been sending DM's since 9.30 this morning. Maybe I should give up and invest elsewhere... @nsandihelp
