Discover is brutal at this moment.
Love it in a design perspective, but as a UGC platform UI it does a bad job.
It looks like Netflix, so it's good looking by default, but it requires players to scroll way too much, and we all know Fortnite players hate scrolling.
The Hero Spot covers the whole screen, yet the maps featured there barely get any traffic because players don't scroll, and the auto-scroll waits for the whole trailer to finish playing. This is a huge deal beccause: There isn't a clear goal for us creators to aim for atm.
Before this new design, Epic's Picks guaranteed homebar if you hit 1k CCU which was very doable, so that was a great motivation and a great goal.
The Banner gave you millions of impressions for your events if you got accepted.
Both of these are gone now, so we're left with Sponsored as the only way of getting players but it is way too expensive and is going to get even crazier as Christmas approaches.
Credit to Epic for trying to improve the platform more and more each year, but I feel like they're over-complicating something that should be simple and has already worked fine before.
Here's a breakdown of the time and investment in Break and Steal Eggs, along with the additional investment we had planned before the game was removed from Discover tabs.
- Sponsored row: $5,400
- Asset costs: $1,100
- Total spent: $6,500
- Time invested: 20 days of work (13 updates)
Additional investment planned: $4,000
Throughout this period, we've done live events and boss fights, built an active community, and achieved strong metrics. We were committed to improving this game but discover completely kicked us out with no support.
We also planned a streamer campaign to attract more players to our game and Fortnite. However, after the game was removed from Discover tabs, we decided to stop further investment and time.
We are sharing our experience to show how challenging it has become to gain and maintain exposure in discover, even with consistent updates, investment, strong metrics, and an engaged community. We've concluded that it's more so of a luck based system rather than meeting expected metrics or we're not getting enough data. #UEFN
That future already came true in 2018 when Fortnite Creative launched.
It was the purest form of players creating for players where everyone could create something. I love UEFN but it shifted so much towards actual game dev that it doesn't really hit the same as 1.0.
When Epic finds the balance between UEFN and 1.0 that's when the magic will spark again for everyone.

nobody cries about "soulless art" when a studio with 400 employees ships a reskinned sequel every year. but a broke dev uses AI for one sprite and it's a crime
I dream of the day when Fortnite can update without shutting the entire platform down for hours.
After 7 years creating in this space, I’ve learned update days are one of the most effective map-killers. If your map is popular you’re not affected, if it’s new and getting some momentum then all that is gone, if it’s not new but relatively new and not huge then you’re affected too and lose a big chunk of players.
Hopefully Epic can figure this out soon.
I guess I'm a hybrid of all except Zoomer lmao
1. Dragon Age: Origins
2. Silent Hill 2
3. Skyrim
4. F.E.A.R.
5. Civilization V
6. Total War Warhammer III
7. Battle for Middle Earth II: Rise of The Witch King
8. Age of Mythology
9. Perfect Dark N64
I've never purchased anything from other creators but this one was a no-brainer. Amazing work 🤌

I don't think Epic included this in the patch notes but now the NPC spawner doesn't require restarting Fortnite after pushing changes to work again.
Unsure if this was a specific TWDU npc issue or a wider issue, but is now fixed 💪
Are Gun Games making a come back?👀
Maybe I should re-publish my Toon Town Gun Game after all these years 🏗️
Who can point me in the right direction?
I have this PSD file of my leaderboard, I want to be able to feed whatever AI the latest submissions from players (their name and time) and make it sort them all up and give me a new PNG of the updated leaderboard.
One VERY common comment when you have an island with leaderboards is players complaining that their names are not there despite never sending a screenshot.
Players see a 'Global Leaderboard' and assume it works automatically...Epic please give us global leaderboards 😭
I consider Roguelike one of the most creative genres in UEFN, the way it can be experimented on makes for a small ecosystem where all maps can thrive without conflicting with each other like other combat genres (where everyone copies everyone)
