My view is that we have left behind the city of the future. We need to go back to arrive at our future. “A smart city is a human city” @VelocitySeries #sttpp #cyclists #cycling #bicycle @sustrans – at Dublin City, Ireland
Miserable day today but cycling is always my best option. I get to work in just over 3 mins, perhaps even faster now with the new stretch of #bicycle lane outside Chatham Mews, part of the planned 🚲 network now complete & open. I can’t wait to try it @cortes_john #gibraltar
There is only one of these in the whole world and it landed in #Gibraltar. Painted as a one-off ambassador for BA’s Better World Sustainability initiative with its program goal to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 @British_Airways
New plans for Chilton & Edinburgh. Is the ghastly wall going? The buildings are not the most aesthetically pleasing but there’s vast scope to open up Queensway to create public space, planted areas, gardens & may I be brave enough, to add, the planned bicycle lane @cortes_john
My vision for the area, biggest benefactor were residents of Edinburgh & Chilton Court & children going to the schools. By removing the wall the whole area, Queensway & Europort Ave could be opened up into an amazing green area, recreation, outdoor gym, cafes = LIFE #gibraltar
Plans also extended onto Europort Ave allowing a reduced traffic flow as there is today. Area would become an open space with planted, recreational / playing areas for all. For this the wall had to go. The bike lane was the only part of the project completed. Do you remember it?
When car manufacturers get into the bicycle world it’s quite telling, however one of the most important things to remember is that bicycles work coz they are simple, relatively inexpensive & get us to places quickly while helping keep us fit, don’t over complicate things @VW
Wonder what our air quality is really like in #Gibraltar and what effect it is having on our lives and health. The air we breathe is the sum total of things we cannot control plus the things that we could control if we wanted to, plus the occasional accident

Providing safe cycling infrastructure is not a technical challenge. It is only a political one.

Pedal Ready organise short courses for those who would like to cycle but are a little reluctant because of busy roads. You don’t even need a bike. Use a Hoppy e-bike, let’s do a short course & we can ride #gibraltar together. Forget traffic, 🅿️ & even hills, there’re electric ⚡️
Congratulations Hoppy & @cortes_john for supporting introduction of e-bikes to their fleet of shared mobility in #gibraltar. The bikes are excellent & provide an amazing means to get to places. You don’t need to wear a potentially dirty helmet either. Just scan, Hop On & ride
Last few spaces left for Pedal Ready Cycling Proficiency as part of the GSLA Summer Sports. Join us at Bayside / Westside School on Monday 27th from 9-11am. Register now 🚲 #gibraltar
Looking forward to seeing the detail with regard to pedestrian access & bicycle infrastructure because we should be aiming to encourage use of alternative ways of entering #gibraltar by tourists & visitors. We do not need more cars, more traffic. Parking policy will be key

Another excellent article re: car traffic in #gibraltar by Mr Darham in the @GibChronicle The threat of an ever growing vehicle ownership rate in a city without space for so many vehicles - “a physics problem” & the role of other forms of transport @cortes_john @HMGoG_MEETT
An excellent letter re: the much needed cycling debate in #gibraltar in reply to Thomas Johnson letter of the 10th June in the @GibChronicle by Mr Torilla and Active Travel #bicycle #cycling @cortes_john @HMGoG_MEETT
Happy World Bicycle Day ‘26, here’s reminiscing on World Bicycle Day ‘23 after the longest stretch of segregated bicycle lane was completed. The vision was a greener, healthier #gibraltar one where children could move safely & independently especially to school

Thank you @HMGoG_MEETT @cortes_john for recognising that cyclists always stop at red lights. For the rest of you, e-scooters, motorcyclists & car drivers, please remember red lights are for everyone, not just for cyclists. The bigger you are the more dangerous you are #gibraltar
