Ça a changé l’extrême droite 😯
Update to today's terrorist attack in Poland. The shooter has been identified as Michał Oksiński from Ostrowiec. An additional victim of the nass shooting has died, bringing the death toll to six and the reported number of injured to an additional 16 people. Kamil Kosin was one of the responding policemen and is the policeman in the video that was posted this afternoon. He sustained three gunshot wounds from an automatic weapon. Despite being shot, Kosin still neutralized the attacker. The attacker had an automatic weapon, a helmet, and a vest. The parents and sister of Oksiński were found dead in the apartment where the shooter lived with them. Oksiński's social media posts are inconsistent. They seem to have included anti-Catholic and pro-Communist posts, as well as manga and animé type posts, as well as Falanga imagery. He allegedly attended the 2020 pro-abortion protests in Poland, the "All-Poland Women’s Strike." In one of the images pulled from his Facebook account before it was deleted his caption was, "A photo bathed in the red light of communism-simply delightful." Kanał Zero, a Polish news channel interviewed a couple of people who knew the killer from school and alleged that he had worn all kinds of masks, dressed strangely, and painted his nails black. Reports about the shooter and the victims are prelimary at the moment, as the story continues to evolve with updates. Links in comments.

Everyone talks about "authoritarian drift." Nobody talks about the real problem: for the first time in history, we might be led into authoritarianism by people who aren't even smart enough to realize it. Let me explain. The great dictators of the 20th century were monsters. But they were lucid monsters. Stalin had a library of around 25,000 books, pamphlets and journals. He annotated everything, argued with authors in the margins, rewrote entire pages of texts submitted to him. A former seminarian and compulsive reader, he went as far as personally intervening in an academic debate on the origins of language. Lenin: trained lawyer, polyglot, dozens of volumes written in his own hand. He theorized the seizure of power before pulling it off. Mussolini: schoolteacher, then journalist, then newspaper boss. He understood the masses because he'd spent his life writing for them. Mao: assistant librarian at Peking University, poet, a strategist who won a civil war with an army of peasants. Hitler: rejected by art school, but an obsessive autodidact with an extraordinary memory, thousands of books, and an instinct for crowds and staging that propaganda experts still study today. Napoleon: artillery officer, gifted mathematician, author of a Civil Code that shaped the law of dozens of countries. Let me be clear: none of this excuses anything. Intelligence isn't a virtue, it's a multiplier. These men put exceptional minds to work producing millions of deaths. But they KNEW what they were doing. They had a theory of power, a vision, a plan. Today we have a new model. I call it the zombie dictator. The zombie dictator doesn't want dictatorship. He has no plan. He has no vision. He stacks up norms, regulations, speech controls "for our own good," endless public spending, and he can't see that the sum of it all looks more and more like a cage. He's sleepwalking us into it. And that's exactly what makes him dangerous: you can't reason with someone who doesn't understand what he's doing. How did we get here? Four floors. First floor: school. For fifty years, part of the left turned school into an ideological project instead of a machine for passing on knowledge. Less rigor, fewer fundamentals, less merit-based selection in the name of equality. The result: public school no longer lifts the best kids from working-class backgrounds. And when the social elevator is broken, all that's left is the service staircase, reserved for those already at the top. Second floor: reproduction. The ultimate irony is that a left-wing sociologist, Bourdieu, theorized it best. And the numbers prove him right. 64% of students at France's grandes écoles come from very privileged backgrounds, while those backgrounds make up 23% of their age group. At the most selective schools, it's close to 80%. Children of factory workers and the unemployed? 9%. They broke the school of the poor and kept the network for their own. Third floor: the disappearance of pressure. An elite that got things wrong used to pay for it. Today the state subsidizes everything: zombie companies, media, associations, careers. When nobody has to fight to survive, nobody has to be good. We select for conformity, not competence. People learn to recite the right talking points, not to solve problems. Fourth floor: technocracy. Entire careers without ever touching reality. Elite school, minister's office, Brussels, corporate board, back to a minister's office. A closed loop, fed by activist money, foundations and NGOs that write the talking points technocrats then repeat. Nobody voted for this. Nobody is accountable for it. Stack those four floors and you get an elite that was never truly selected, never tested, never sanctioned. People put in power by context, not by merit. The 20th century taught us to fear strongmen who were too smart. The 21st will teach us to fear soft systems run by people who don't understand what they're running. The zombie dictator may be less cruel. But he's much harder to stop. You can't overthrow someone who doesn't even know he's in power. The only answer is to rebuild what was broken: demanding schools, real selection, and elites who are once again accountable for their mistakes.

Wrong question. "Will Islam take over America by 2050?" Grok pulls up the Pew numbers, everyone nods, debate closed. But nobody serious is worried about a sharia takeover. The real question is simpler and far more uncomfortable: does it actually work to put two cultures with very different ways of life in the same place, at scale, and hope it sorts itself out? Good timing, I'm French. We've been running that experiment for 40 years. Here's how it went. Starting in the 80s, the French left turned immigration from a practical question into a moral one. SOS Racisme, "Touche pas à mon pote", concerts, badges. The message was clear: if you ask whether integration is actually working, you're a racist. End of conversation. The right was too scared to push back, so it went along. Meanwhile entire neighborhoods were built, filled, and left to themselves. In 2011 a think tank close to the Socialist Party openly advised the left to stop chasing the working class and build its majority on minorities and graduates instead. Immigration stopped being a policy. It became an electoral strategy. Where we are now: the 2005 riots. 2015, Charlie Hebdo and the Bataclan. Samuel Paty, a history teacher beheaded in 2020 for showing a cartoon in a class on free speech. Dominique Bernard, a teacher stabbed to death in his own school in 2023. Teachers who self-censor. Neighborhoods where police go in with caution. Whole parts of the country where the Republic exists mostly on paper. And this isn't a far-right talking point. Gérard Collomb, longtime Socialist mayor of Lyon and Macron's Interior Minister, a man who read the police notes every single morning, said this the day he left office in 2018: "Today we live side by side. I fear that tomorrow we will live face to face." That's the real subject. Not a takeover. A slow erosion. Trust between neighbors. Schools that can teach everything. Police that can enter every street. People willing to pay taxes for strangers because they feel those strangers are part of the same "us". That's what makes a country work, and it's exactly what dissolves, one neighborhood at a time, when you stack communities next to each other with no shared norms and forbid anyone from saying so. Second case: the UK. Rotherham. At least 1,400 children sexually exploited between 1997 and 2013 according to the official Jay report, overwhelmingly by gangs of men of Pakistani heritage. Then Rochdale, Oldham, Telford, Bradford. And the worst part isn't even the crimes. It's that police, social workers and councils knew, and looked away, partly because they were terrified of being called racist. Girls of 12 and 13 were treated as if they were making "lifestyle choices". It took until 2025 for a national audit to say it plainly, and until 2026 for a full national inquiry to open. Decades late. Hundreds of recommendations ignored. Same mechanism as France. A taboo that protects an ideology, and real people who pay the price. So here's my question to everyone still defending this model: why? Why absolutely insist on forcing this project when every time it's been run at scale, it produced chaos? Chaos for the natives who watch their country change under their feet and get called bigots for noticing. And chaos for immigrants and their kids, stuck in ghettos, pulled between two worlds, the majority who just want a normal life lumped in with the worst. Nobody wins. Except the people who get to feel morally superior from neighborhoods where none of this ever happens. America still has time to have this conversation honestly. Europe waited 40 years. Don't.

History will remember two men as the ones who exposed the empire of lies: Javier Milei and Nayib Bukele. For decades, the same class of experts, NGOs, think tanks and international institutions told us two things were impossible. That you could kill inflation without destroying a country. That you could kill violent crime without "addressing root causes" for another 30 years. Milei took the first one. Argentina, December 2023: inflation over 200% a year, 25% in a single month. A central bank printing money to fund a state that had become a vote-buying machine. Every economist on TV predicted a social explosion if anyone touched it. He cut the number of ministries in half. He balanced the budget in his first year. Monthly inflation went from 25% to under 2%. Poverty, which peaked at 52.9% right after the devaluation, fell to 28%, the lowest since 2018. It's not a straight line, poverty ticked back up this year, and he says so himself. But the point is proven: the "impossible" was possible all along. The lesson is brutal. Endless money printing was never a technocratic necessity. It was a hidden tax on the poor, quietly paying for the people who designed the system and lived off it. Bukele took the second one. El Salvador, 2015: 106 homicides per 100,000 people. The most violent country on earth outside a war zone. Gangs ran neighborhoods, taxed every bus driver and every street vendor, and decided who lived and who died. El Salvador, 2025: 1.3 per 100,000. Lower than the United States. Every international expert said it couldn't be done. The NGOs called it barbaric. Salvadorans re-elected him with over 80% of the vote, because they're the ones who used to bury their kids. And now his helicopters are in Haiti, pulling his own soldiers out of gang territory, telling the gangs: we finished with ours, we can finish with you. So ask yourself the real question. If it was this simple, why didn't anyone do it? Because an entire ecosystem lived off the problem. Inflation funded the state that funded the clients that funded the elections. Crime created fear, and fear created demand for programs, consultants, studies, panels, subsidies and "experts" who never had to deliver a result. In Latin America it was the gangs. In the West it's mass immigration with no integration and crime with no consequences. Different symptom, same business model: the problem is never solved because too many people are paid to manage it. Milei and Bukele didn't just fix two countries. They published the proof. Every politician who still says "it's complicated" now has to explain why a guy with a chainsaw and a guy with a baseball cap did in two years what they couldn't do in forty. Thank you Javier Milei. Thank you Nayib Bukele. The world is going to heal with your solutions. Europe is next. We're waiting.

(Source : L’Express, @chaulet_paul)
