“Between October 2023 and September 2024, Multnomah County recorded 11,243 evictions, according to Portland State University researchers with the program Evicted in Oregon. That compares with almost 6,000 in 2019, according to the Portland Housing Bureau.” 👇

These stats are abhorrent. Oregon legislators (a supermajority of whom are Democrats!) aren't standing up to the developer lobby. We can't just build units with no price controls. We need rent control, eviction protections, and universal housing. opb.org/article/2024/11/22/o…

Nearly 140 at our first post-election general meeting 🌹 A 2nd Trump admin will be catastrophic for the international working class. Relying on the Dems to defeat them isn’t working. An  independent political party, rooted in the working-class majority is necessary ✊ Join us! dsausa.org/join

If we just had a sanitation department they would clean sidewalks and pickup trash and without the whole shakedown local businesses and use tax dollars to harass homeless people part.
Reason 5: Some candidates know what they’re talking about and some candidates definitely don’t. When we began the cleanup for downtown Portland and other areas across the city, we did so by neighborhoods, small businesses, and enhance service areas coming together! These candidates who are running against neighborhoods and against the interests of small business have no place in our next City Hall. ***All talk and no action.***

Good morning. I have submitted testimony that opposes agenda items on the ESD for today. I urge you to do the same and to contact your city council members asking them why they feel compelled to pass this now a full years ahead of contract renewal: portland.gov/auditor/council…
Council is voting to extend for *10* years the Downtown Clean & Safe contract ahead of the election. This ensures a decade of public money flows into the Portland Business Alliance’s coffers to fund their ongoing lobbying with the city. It’s a huge conflict of interest 🚩

developer/landlord-backed candidates are attacking @PDXRenterPower’s Renter Bill of Rights (“DSA wants to cripple the rental market!”) We don't just want to cripple the rental market – we want to replace it with guaranteed universal housing. Basic human dignities shouldn't be private businesses.

We first brought this to light with Eviction Representation for All and what a shock, the disparity in representation is still a massive issue.

“(73%) compared to their private market counterparts (42%), while both subsidized and unsubsidized housing tenants had a very low share of legal representation (13% and 9%, respectively).”

First IG live and I cried a little talking about the many families that are homeless in Portland. Idk how to talk about that without getting emotional and I don’t think ever will, and so I’m committed to ending so I don’t have to weep on camera again.

This is sooo important. We could build housing till we’re Seattle but still have people living on the streets if Tenant protections are not provided and enforced.
oregonlive.com/business/2024… This is a cautionary tale for elected officials claiming we can simply “build” our way out of the housing crisis. Without tenant protections as well, affordable housing is a revolving door with people getting housing and then getting kicked back out.
