An attorney known for talking shit about public defenders succeeds in persuading a PD client to hire him for a very, very serious assault case. The PD had negotiated a cap of 10 yrs to serve. The “real lawyer” instead pleads the client guilty straight up, no cap. Judge imposes 13 yrs.
You don’t always get what you pay for. In the legal field, you very often get unscrupulous grifters whose business model revolves around exploiting suffering and fear in order enrich themselves, with very little concern about outcomes or the well-being of their clients.

As public defenders, we see firsthand how profoundly unjust our criminal legal system is. In California, this system is deeply stained by systemic racism, flaws that cannot be undone, when the punishment is death.

Oops looks like half of all the people I arrested for being gangster terrorists and threw in torture dungeons without trial were wrongfully accused. My bad.

Exclusive: We obtained a leaked playbook that Flock gives to cops to coach them on "how to speak to city council" to avoid getting their contracts canceled. Includes strategies like "own the narrative" by talking to mayor "before public comment periods"

What's happening in San Francisco is now a national scandal.
Mayor Daniel Lurie's decisions on public safety are now national news. No different than Trump. Making decisions on fear & politics. Not reason or data.

Whenever a prosecutor does "lawyering tricks" it's like, withholding exculpatory evidence or tampering with evidence. When the defense does it, it's excluding illegally obtained evidence

Brooklyn Defender Services Union is officially ON STRIKE as of 8 AM this morning. We are striking for a contract that is fair for all, and on par with other NYC public defender offices.
The average conservative: I do not trust the government to run health care. They are too incompetent to handle life and death decisions
Also the average conservative: We need to make it easier for the government to execute people. We can trust them with life and death decisions

We avoid advocating nullification on specific cases, but for those looking for more resources on how to effectively educate for jury nullification and how to get selected on a jury, see our website FIJA.org
If these rabid pro prosecution people took even 5 seconds to talk to people who have been victims of crimes, they'd be shocked to see how many of them who want some form of accountability besides incarceration.
Of course that would shatter the savior complex they all have.
