On this day in 1662 the first "public" bus service was launched by Blaise Pascal. The horse-drawn carriages covered Paris on a schedule. Unfortunately the service didn't last long because they were only available to the nobility, who had their own carriages!

This painting is an imaginary reconstruction of an event that occurred in 1773 - with a teenage Midshipman Nelson. He attempted to shoot a polar bear but his musket misfired. So he took it on with the butt of his gun. Fortunately a gap opened in the ice, so both survived.

#SaturdayMotivation For all book lovers. The magnificent library at #Cardiff Castle. Just to stand there and inhale the scent of old books. The decoration is pretty good too!
