In the UK a landmark legal challenge has been submitted by the law firm Riverway Law, the application appeal leads the way for Palestinian resistance groups to be removed from the list of proscribed organisations. It is worth noting the right to resist colonisation and the right to self determination is ostensibly legal and protected under international law. An excerpt from the introduction of the document states as follows, “For more than a century, the British State has been responsible for colonisation, ethnic cleansing and apartheid in Palestine. From the Balfour Declaration of 1917 to the Nakba of 1948 and all the way up to its present complicity in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, the British State has played a critical role in the persecution of the Palestinian people. It has done so pursuant to its enduring policy of Zionism, an ideology that is the root of the violence in historic Palestine.” The extract from the legal document stresses Britains role in the formation and inception of the Israeli state at the expense of the Palestinians and therefore bears some of the responsibility for the consequent actions of the Israeli state, while continuing to fund genocide and vilify the people who resist and call for an end to the colonisation of Palestinian land whether that be freedom fighters, activists, students, journalists or academics and for much of this unnecessary criminalisation to end. This legal application leads the way so that political wings of factions can engage in political discussions to come to any agreements with foreign governments to end the war on Gaza or even simply for Gazans to be able to receive humanitarian aid.
